A reliable source has confirmed to me tonight the Dolphins have a plan in place to start the season with just two QBs on the active roster. The third QB is expected to be signed to the practice squad. Fins could sign Devlin to the PS if he clears waivers or Adam Froman who they worked out today.

In before the "Carson Palmer is talking bout coming back and the Phins are keeping in only 2 QBs, were trading for Palmer!"

That's stupid. Why not just cut O'Connell and keep Devlin? Devlin looks like he has decent potential.

With the qb position as it has been for some time I would think this is the year to keep a Devlin on the full time roster. Not to say put too many marbles in a guy who is more potential (albeit it is certainly there) than proven material. But the position should be treated with high degree of care and long thought. Understood that we need to have enough good OL and DBs etc. But in the Fins situation an exception should be made. What happens if Henne stinks it up or he or Moore goes down? And will Devlin not clear waivers? Just asking.

I like it, just sign Devlin to the practice squad. He hasn't played enough for another team to claim him as part of their active roster. That opens up an extra roster spot for either Moore or another DB

Don't be to sure about Devlin, Fins worked out Froman today. Wanted to sign him earlier in the offseason, but he had already negotiated with Atlanta when they came calling.

I bet Devlin gets picked up though if they try to stash him on the PS.

I wouldn't mind either one as a potential P.S. candidate. I'm just saying I don't think we need to waste an active roster spot on either one. We are taking a bit of a risk, but how often do two QB's get hurt in 1 game( I know it happened to us last year but I think that might be the one rare exception). Plus we'd be able to keep a better player on our 53

Devlin will be claimed by someone, the raiders and colts wanted him before we got him.

damn.. Devlin is a Karmic gift our clueless FO, who muffed Mallett twice and wasted a second on Patty White. got but didn't deserve. The only reason he's on our roster is because of a bad east west Shrine game and uncharacteristically coming late to his own ProD day. Otherwise he'd have been drafted and was monitored closely his senior year by teams including PBurgh and NE. He chose us over 3 or 4 other offers perceiving the upside. I hope they don't screw it up.. Devlin right now has more attractive upside than Quinn to name but one example. Sheesh

I love the fact you mentioned NE, because this kid was compared to Tom Brady by just about every scout as they said Devlin looks a lot like Brady did when he came out of college.

This is an example of settling for ok. You would think Henne looked like Brady in preseason. Fact is the fanbase is swayed into thinking that because he played average in preseason instead of horrid like last year's regular season.

What does Devlin have to do with Henne? Devlin isn't going to start a game for us this year unless we're really out of the playoff race and either Moore or Henne is hurt. And even than idk if the front office would start him. Moore has had a good preseason too so they might want to evaluate him for next year.

There is no future with Moore. Devlin is our only hope for the future right now. Maybe we can wait to draft someone next year or the next and then wait a couple more years until he's ready after Sparono is long gone. By the way, there is absolutely no way Devlin will last on the PS all year (won't even clear waivers).

With peyton manning with neck issues they really struggled in the preseason and likely would pick up devlin in a heartbeat
Peyton manning would be a good mentor for devlin and we would be facing devlin and mallet for the next 10 years as we go through another 10 quarterback busts..

Devlin is an extremely capable QB and don't be surprised when you see him starting for some team and putting up Flacco type results in the next 3-4 years. Just hope it's us....

You can only be top dog for so long after years of the grind and yearly punishment.
It is a safe bet to say Manning and Bradys best years are behind them.
Brady is what 34 years old Manning is 35 and in danger of missing the first game..
These guys only have a couple years left before they start declining like Marino.

If Froman was so good he wouldn't have been the first one cut. He basically wouldn't have even made the 75 man roster in a normal preseason. The guy was 6-13 for 45 yards and 1 INT in the preseason, that's a QB rating of 22.9.

and to think, last january, most of us thought henne would be battling it out with a rookie qb for the 2nd and 3rd spots.

    oh, how the world spins.

Why do they need a 3rd QB? Both Henne and Moore are young and they gave them all the snaps this preseason. It makes no sense to waste a roster spot on a guy that won't see the field all year. That is what the PS is for. Nobody saw anything from Devlin because he didn't play - pretty clear sign there they were thinking PS for him or nothing. They are much better off keeping Moore at WR or WAllen at DB then having to cut them and keep a 3rd QB. Even keeping Berger as their backup center would be a much better choice. I agree - go 2 QB's - no brainer. If we get to needing a 3rd our season is already over anyways.

You would think a team that was down to their 3rd string QB TWICE in the last 2 seasons and had 3 QB's on the roster and Ronnie Brown for the wildcat, would keep more than 2 QBs. That was my thinking, although truthfully I would like Devlin on the PS.

If that is their #3 QB option than I agree with the people who are against cutting Devlin. That guys arm is done.
