    Per rotoworld

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins are "standing pat" and will not sign free agent FB Vonta Leach.

The Dolphins never made an offer to Leach, and they don't plan to do so before seeing how the options already on the roster perform in training camp. Per beat writer Armando Salguero, Miami will "circle back around" to Leach if the in-house options prove incapable and the fullback is still on the open market. With the Dolphins out of the picture, Leach may head back to Baltimore.

clearly he wanted too much money, good to see the team wont recklessly spend just to try get an extra win this season, our long term cap will be fine as long as we are sensible

Sounds like Leach is asking for a lot of money for a part time starter in this offense. Thing is he would already have a new team if his asking price was more realistic. My guess is he could still end up a Dolphin a couple of weeks into camp once his asking price comes down. Doesn't look like any team will be signing him anytime soon.

Dolphins going public with this hurts Leach. With Miami OUT of the picture every other team just lowered their offer now.

Leach will end up in Miami. BANK ON IT!

I have absolutely no problem with this. I understand that every player thinks they are worth more than they actually are, but it's time to stop being stubborn and face the reality of the situation when noone has made an offer

good...he wasn't gonna get much run in this o anyways...the lead blocking fullback doesn't make much sense here...especially if he doesn't offer much of anything else other than an occasional pa catch in the flat when the d forgets about him...

Leach will be a Raven. Remember this non-signing if we blow in short yardage situations.

However, I have said a ton that the 11 Personnel grouping is where this team should be in most this season.

I've tought for awhile now this was all a ploy to make sure lane stays motivated.

What's funny is how the media went crazy talking about how bad we wanted him and how big a loss it would be if we didn't land him. These "experts" constantly expose themselves as frauds.

Fine with me. I wasn't thrilled about having a 32 year old FB.

He must be asking for a lot of money. To have at least 7 suitors, some like the Dolphins, with cap space available and waiting for months.
Actually, it's a pretty good sign that Miami has not rushed to get him and paid too much in the process. I'm interested to see what Evan Rodriguez can do as a prospective lower cost FB option. If Jorvorskie Lane and Rodriguez stink it up in Training Camp, paying more to sign Leach could happen. (And Vonta may enjoy the prospect of missing the first part of Training Camp - he's an old veteran).

If Lane wasn't tearing up the treadmill once these rumors started there will be no hope for him. If he comes in fat in a couple of days go ahead and figure Clay and possibly Rodriguez will make the roster.

Did Lane report to OTA's? Was he too heavy? I never read anything that said he was. My point is I think these guys know what kind of shape Lane is in at this point and it must not be that bad. Unless he was a no show for "Mandatory mini camps" and I don't think he was. Why are we acting like he's fat and out of shape, do we know this?

Mmmm, interesting. Is it just the asking price or is there something else going on here? We made it quite obvious that we were NOT happy with our current FB situation, so to not consider one of the best FB's in the business simply because of $$ or his age, doesn't completely compute. Something else is playing into this.

I haven't read anything that says anything about his asking price being too high. Just might be that we aren't that interested in signing him. Armando actually tweeted: "Backing away from Leach is Miami's choice. He wanted to play for the Dolphins. Wasn't using them for leverage. Was ready to sign."

As good as Leach is he is still a FB. This position IMO is covered well enough already on our roster. Lets save the money we would have spent on Leach and apply it to an extension of one our playmakers like Jones.

I caught this on FH's following of Dolphin Beat Writers' TwitterL

That's a little different than not wanting him

Its not like the Ravens are going to pull the $2 million per year offer they had on the table from Leach. The Dolphins announcement means nothing now imo. Leach already has his offer and that offer is not going to change at this point.

The Dolphins are keeping the door open but I don't think it's going to matter. The Ravens have reiterated that their final offer to Leach before they cut him ($2 million base, $1 million incentives) still stands if he wants it. I'd put it at about 80/20 that he takes their offer.

We just did't want him that bad and Ravens had the best offer on the table.
