Dolphins looking to trade up in the Draft?

by the way i don't buy any of that we like lane johnson but we don't like him that much from ireland stuff...i think it's the exact opposite...they like him

I wonder what was the last team to win the Super Bowl starting a top 10 pick that the team itself used on it's offensive line. McKinnie started for the Ravens last year but was drafted by the Vikings.

Jonathan Ogden?

edit: I think it's Orlando Pace.

LOL@ "but lets not act like this kid just blew up in underwear"

That made me laugh

I understand what you're saying, but before the combine and the ONE senior bowl game (where in history no names have excelled and greats have played badly) he wasn't a top 10 pick. He was projected as a 1st-2nd rounder. Not saying he's a bad player, on the contrary I think he's good and fits our ZBS well, i'm just saying he wasn't a top 10 lock like you're saying.

Every year this happens. Hell, not too long ago people were saying Carradine and Cooper were in the discussion at our 54th pick, now they're 1st round locks.

oh, im sure Ireland loves him

He is a lineman and a year older than seniors in this draft. Two of Ireland's 1980's style of football loves.

vernon davis wasn't a top 6 pick til he lit the combine on fire...and ran like what low 4.4's or something rediculous...it happens all the time...julio jones got into the top 6 by destroying the combine...happens more than you think...fast risers up boards

it also depends on scheme...a zone move athlete one like ours lane johnsons the best talent...joeckel athletically did not wow anyone at the combine...he's a good player but look at some of his teammates tape jake mathews and tell me who's better...fishers a more power scheme fit imo...but he lets defenders get up into his body too much and hit him high and ride him back more than he should...he does reanchor pretty well but i see a tendency to get too upright...

no ones got lane johnsons feet or movement skills...lateral forward on the hoof no one

you see, there is your problem. you bank on the combine.

yeah san diegos the one to worry about...and they have needs they must fill...but i think cleveland unless we sweeten the pot enough is gonna be hard to come off that #6 pick staring at milliner...and again detroit is pouncing on one of these tackles...so if johnsons the only one left when they come up we can forget about it

I really don't think the Browns are in a hurry about Dee Milliner to be honest with you. They have Joe Haden, they've always liked Buster Skrine, they just signed Chris Owens and they're one of the top two teams on Brent Grimes' list. They may not be fully set, but they don't have to feel anxious, either. There's some depth at the corner position in this Draft and I think they know it.

On the other hand, I think they do feel some urgency about the skill positions. They've punted on the quarterback issue. They signed Jason Campbell which was a de facto admission that the job is still Brandon Weeden's to lose. They could've gotten into the bidding for Alex Smith and they didn't. They could've gotten into it with Matt Flynn and Ryan Mallett but the signing of Campbell seems to preclude that.

They've essentially said, we'll buy Weeden one more year...but we're going to run a system that suits him better and we're going to surround him with talent. They were supposedly interested in Mike Wallace but I think the expense just got too rich for them. That or Wallace wouldn't even return their phone calls because he was so fixated on Miami. They've investigated a number of tight ends, bid on some of them, were rebuffed, and had to settle for Kellen Davis whom I'm sure everyone knows is not a starter. All they've got at the skill positions that they can count on is Josh Gordon and he's something of a one-dimensional dude (so far).

This is Rob Chudzinski too, tight end specialist. If he's enamored with Tyler Eifert, you can bet Mike Lombardi isn't comfortable with that at #6 overall but would be a lot more comfortable with it at #11 or #12 overall. Otherwise, the same goes for the wide receivers in this draft Cordarrelle Patterson and Tavon Austin. They may like them, but probably not at #6. And with the receiver depth in this draft, that extra #45 or #54 pick would go a long way toward getting more of those skill guys.

I am not a big fan of drafting an OT in the first round let alone trading up to draft one.

But man Erik fisher is going to be a stud in the NFL.. He will end up the best OL from this years draft.. A perfect ZBS with damn quick feet and power in the running game.

Honestly he reminds me of Ryan clady the way he moves his feet specially in pass protection.

By whom? You've spoken with scouts who told you this?

Yes, you're right. Every year the public is often very wrong about how certain players are really valued, and then they are corrected as the process goes on.

no argument there although i believe they aren't locked in on weeden in 2013 as of now...they sure aren't trying to hide anything feeling wise about the qb position...i'm sure they would like to trade out though and acquire more assets

well, you kinda just said so. You said Joeckel didnt wow anyone at the combine.

it's one part of the process...and the last thing i put all my eggs in...

They've even admitted (I believe publicly) after the signing of Jason Campbell that Brandon Weeden will enter camp as the starter and it'll be his job to lose but that Campbell will battle him for it.

now that is very very true...ha ha...so true

You're right, but it happens the other way around just as much, if not more. Guys fly up the boards because the senior bowl coaches say the player had a "great personality and leadership" (Tebow) then game time comes around and he's hot garbage. Not saying anyone here thought he was any good, but just using him as an example.
