I was 14 at the time, watching the Dolphins play the Patriots. When Howard Cosell made the announcement, my mother started crying and saying, "Why would anyone do that?" The next day at school, a great many students were just in shock. The principal made a special announcement that morning and I just remember being very, very empty that day. Still am in a lot of ways.

Now playing on my iPod: Whatever Gets You Through The Night.

That happened a year before I was born, but just hearing and watching the footage of the MNF breaking that news just sent a shiver down my spine. Lennon was a great musician, and human being.

I wasn't born yet, but whenever I see a documentary on his death I tear up every time. He was the reason I became a musician on the side. R.I.P. man.

I was 2 months old when this tragic event happened. I almost wonder what the world and music would be like had he still been alive today. He and the Beatles were SO influential with their music, it's just a shame that some nutjob would deprive us of his great work of art. His music is opened up the door for so many other musicians. He will be always be missed. RIP John Lennon.

I remember Cosell announcing it like it was yesterday. The game at that point was meaningless and I had forgotten the Dolphins had won. I lived in Chicago and the next morning took the El train downtown to buy Lennon's last album. Needless to say, the store was packed with people buying John's music with the Beatles and his solo work.

I was on a biz trip to S. America ... listening to MNF on short wave, Armed Forces Radio. Was a big stir in every country, Lennon was universally loved & admired.

I too remember the game and Howard's announcement. I was too young to appreciate John Lennon's legacy then, but I definitely understand it now. Too often it seems the truly special humans on the planet meet their death in such sad ways.

Great Human Beings dont disown their first born son after they have an affair. Leave it at he was a great musician and humanitarian, not a great man.
