Curiously, I thought someone would have already started a thread about this.

D-Thomas is back at practice in full contact drills working with the 3rd string OL. Within the hour Mike Berardino reported via Twitter that he threw Louis Ellis to ground.

    His legend grows...

It's good news. I would certainly hope he would be able to handle Louis Ellis at this point. Louis Ellis starts handling him, we've got problems.

    Best news of the day...
If Thomas can stay healthy and start at RG we are going to open up 3 lane highways for RB/RW/PC.

This got me very excited. The revolving down at RG hurt us last year. With Carey's shoulder back, the right side of the line could be great!

Hey remember, Big Lou Ellis may be a rookie, but Donald Thomas is little more than a rookie himself. He played one regular season game last year.

Murphy still running with the 1st string? I'm curious to see if or for how long he can hold off Thomas.....

I said last year that Murphy wasn't expected to contribute right away, and wasn't giving up on him like most because he didn't contribute as a rookie. glad to see that he has apparently made some strides going into this year. Hopefully he can push DT for the job with the loser providing solid depth.

Would love to see S Murphy hold on to the RG spot atleast for another few weeks, atleast till preseason game 1, give him some experience for if and when Thomas gets injured again.

Actually, Shawn Murphy is 2nd string today. The starter is none other than backup Center Joe Berger.

At some point you knew they had to give Berger a legit shot at this thing. He didn't sign on just to warm the bench behind Jake Grove, he wants a shot to start somewhere.

I would imagine that it's still Shawn Murphy's job to lose (as seriously as I can say that without chuckling), there are benefits to getting Joe Berger over to RG. You get to bump Andy Alleman over to 2nd string Center and see him play his true position, the position he was drafted to play.

Remember what Jason Ferguson said about Donald Thomas last year. He said "that guy is strong and hits you with a good punch when blocking". He said Thomas plays with "heavy hands" which is an excellent trait for an o-lineman

Thomas' hands are so heavy, that he once slapped Chuck Norris and Matt Jones in the same motion.

Thomas' hands are so heavy that whenever he hits the ground in disgust, there's an earthquake in Japan.

Fergie nicknamed him Heavy Chest. maybe a little too heavy, leading to a torn pec.

once he lays that chest on you, it's over? like a couple strippers i know...

I read somewhere that Donald Thomas eats AFL players for breakfast each morning, and washes it down with shots of rocket fuel

Thanks for the update. A nice competition brewing between Murphy and Thomas for that RG spot. Should be interesting.

I was there to see him do it, and it was while he had the pec injury and he was only using one arm. He benched 550 12 times and would have done more but stopped to sign autographs.....while still holding the 550 over his head. :rimshot:

Who's happier - us or Donald Thomas?

Murphy is probably not pleased. What I like about the new regime, Murphy's response to the new development will be "I welcome his return as I want to be the best RG on this team and I will continue to work hard and prove it."

    May the best man win.

Not really much of a competition. At this point in the two RG's career it goes something like this:

Shawn Murphy < average NFL starting RG
Donald Thomas > Superman after drinking a "5 hour energy"

The Dolphins only limited Donald Thomas' participation in contact drills so as not to demoralize the entire defense. He desires two things out of life: to destroy his enemies, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

Yeah, the kid has tons of raw talent with health being his only question mark. The good thing is if he does indeed get injured again (*knock on wood*) it looks like Miami has a capable back-up developing in Shawn Murphy. Who knows? Maybe Murphy even beats Thomas for the starting spot. Even having an improved-Murphy start and Thomas as depth (or vice versa) would be a win IMHO for Miami.

Did Thomas ever play LG in College, anyone know? If Murphy works out...then long term it would be good to have Thomas and Long on the same side... earth moving beast freaks they would be.

UConn's homepage doesn't have a depth chart for 2007/08, but Thomas started at LG in 2006/07.

EDIT: after reading a few press releases from the 2007/08 season, Thomas played RG that year. anyhow, he can probably play both positions with us. IMO he's a better fit at RG though.
