The North was up first and we finally got a chance to see Coastal Carolina CB Josh Norman on the field. Unfortunately there was little or no opportunity for any type of evaluations so that will have to wait for the game. It was interesting that Norman went through the entire walk-through wearing sunglasses though. It may not have been the best idea for Norman, who some teams have red-flagged for character concerns, to come out looking like a bit of a hot shot but perhaps that’s just reading too much into it. Afterwards we spoke with Norman, who seemed a little concerned about going into the game without having practiced or seen the receivers run. With that said, Norman really can’t lose. If the Chanticleer standout struggles he can always point to the lack of preparation. If Norman performs well he can say that he excelled despite not having practiced. I fully expect Norman to take some chances and the potential is there for some big plays, both for Norman and the South. At the end of the North’s time allotment as the players were leaving the field some of the defensive lineman began throwing the football around, most notably Alameda Ta’amu of Washington and Kendall Reyes of Connecticut. The sight of 300 pounders, or in Ta’amu’s case a 341 pounder, doing their best wide receiver imitations never fails to be funny.

From what we could tell it appears as though the quarterback rotation will be Kirk Cousins of Michigan St. starting, followed by Russell Wilson of Wisconsin with Kellen Moore of Boise St. coming in third. The rest of the starting lineup, from what we could tell, consisted of Doug Martin of Boise St. at running back, Bradie Ewing of Wisconsin at fullback, Gerell Robinson of Arizona St. and DeVier Posey of Ohio St. at wide receiver, Michael Egnew of Missouri at tight end, Mike Adams of Ohio St. and Mitchell Schwartz of California at offensive tackle, Kevin Zeitler of Wisconsin and Johnnie Troutman of Penn St. at offensive guard, Michael Brewster of Ohio St. at center, Cam Johnson of Virginia and Jack Crawford of Penn St. at defensive end, Billy Winn of Boise St. and Mike Martin of Michigan at defensive tackle, Audie Cole of North Carolina St., Lavonte David of Nebraska and James Michael-Johnson of Nevada at linebacker, Jamell Flemming of Oklahoma and Asa Jackson of Cal Poly at cornerback and Trenton Robinson of Michigan St. and George Iloka of Boise St. at safety. Can't help but wonder if Joe Paterno's passing has anything to do with the Nittany Lions getting nods over more highly rated prospects.

It was more of the same as the South took the field, with very little of consequence to report. Afterwards I spoke with Joe Adams of Arkansas, who is expected to be one of if not the fastest prospect in this class. Adams said he has been running 4.2’s in training and hopes to run a 4.25 forty for scouts in pre-draft workouts. However, it won’t be in Indianapolis at the Scouting Combine next month as Adams said he will probably wait for his pro day to show off that blazing speed. It looked like the South will be using a quarterback rotation of Brandon Weeden of Oklahoma St. followed by Nick Foles of Arizona and Ryan Lindley of San Diego St. From what we could tell the other starters will be Terrance Ganaway of Baylor at running back, Alfred Morris of Florida Atlantic at fullback, Joe Adams of Arkansas and Dwight Jones of North Carolina at wide receiver, Deangelo Peterson of L.S.U. at tight end, Zebrie Sanders of Florida St. and Cordy Glenn of Georgia at offensive tackle, Jeff Allen of Illinois and James Brown of Troy at offensive guard, Ben Jones of Georgia at center, Quinton Coples of North Carolina and Courtney Upshaw of Alabama at defensive end, Brandon Thompson of Clemson and Kheeston Randall of Texas at defensive tackle, Zach Brown of North Carolina, Sean Spence of Miami (FL) and Emmanuel Acho of Texas at linebacker, Janoris Jenkins of North Alabama and Brandon Boykin of Georgia at cornerback and Markelle Martin of Oklahoma St. and Brandon Taylor of L.S.U. at safety. It’s a pretty good sign that a roster is loaded with talent when a potential Top 20 overall pick like South Carolina DE Melvin Ingram can’t even crack the starting lineup! It’s also worth mentioning that Vanderbilt CB Casey Hayward had a wrap on his left leg and appeared to be limping a bit but was trying to stay involved in the action, although his availability for the game could be in question.

Next time the players take the field they will be warming up for the actual game. Hopefully you found some of the above notes interesting, but if not extra pictures were included in this report for good measure. Be sure to check back after the game for a look at who stood out, both positively and negatively, in the 2012 Senior Bowl.
