He can play LT or RT.

He is arguably the best run blocking OT in the league.

He is extremely athletic and would be a perfect fit for our blocking scheme.

We would be stealing him from our true rival. (screw the jets)

Does anyone know a single reason this would not be a good idea?

I am surprised he hasn't been signed. If we can sign him it takes away the need to sign a o/l in the 1st few rounds.

Vollmer has never played in a zone blocking scheme, Long and Winston have.

Something tells me the "top" of the OT FA's are waiting on Long to sign to set the market.

The market dropped way off. They thought they were all going to get 12 million dollar contracts playing on an offensive line

Screw Jake Long. He is just jerking us around. I hope nobody signs him. Would serve him right.

Like him but not the attitude of "it's been DAYS, screw Long because he's not serious."

This is a business. Neither he nor the Dolphins have done anything wrong. They're just both exploring their options.

If Volmer were a priority I bet the FO what have had him in and maybe even overpaid like they did with Wallace & the LBs. It looks to me like Long is their preference so they are waiting.

I agree, greedy man. Will not be happy unless he gets 50 MORE million from us. More money than any one should need.

This would cripple the pats. Say hello to Cam Wake sacking brady 5 times next year with 340lb Marcus Cannon starting at RT

Sebastian Vollmer had his right knee scoped on 2/27/13 Wednesday

Vollmer’s surgery was termed postseason maintenance, but the knee — not his back — is the reason
he struggled during the final weeks of the season. He had a procedure on his back last offseason.

Before missing the Patriots’ Thanksgiving night game against the Jets, Vollmer had allowed just one sack and 14 pressures. But in the final seven games, including the playoffs, he allowed 5½ sacks and 23 pressures.

The surgery is considered minor, especially for an offensive lineman

Probably very pricey, as in north of Jake Long's asking price. I wouldn't be opposed to it, but i think Eric Winston will be a better value and has zone blocking experience.

Back injuries always scare me.....especially b/c i've dealt with one for the last 12 years myself. They never fully heal. Instead, you maintain them and tolerate the bad days. Being as tall as he is, i would go over Vollmer's medical with a fine tooth comb before i would offer him a long term big money deal. I'm sure that's been holding up some teams, along with his knee.

How is he a perfect fit for our scheme if he has never played in a ZBS?
