The Giants have six official candidates for their head coaching vacancy as of Wednesday morning.

Eric Studesville is the wild card of the group at this point.

Studesville, who was fired Monday after a long stint as the Broncos' running backs coach, is highly respected. He has ties to the Giants organization and served as Denver's interim coach for a four-game stint at the end of the 2010 season. But compared to the other candidates, Studesville lacks the experience the team has indicated it seeks in Ben McAdoo's permanent replacement, which makes his candidacy an interesting one.

Who is Eric Studesville, and what does he bring to the table when he interviews with the Giants? Here's a closer look:

Studesville is a respected leader who players like and has proven he can produce a strong running game, which is something the Giants lack. He's had five different backs rush for 1,000 yards in a season at least once in his career - something the Giants haven't had in years. Studesville has ties to the Giants organization and has limited experience with the head coaching job. Gettleman wants his head coach to operate as a CEO, and Studesville would likely do so, delegating offensive and defensive responsibilities to his coordinators and assistants while focusing on the culture of the team.

A very well respected coach, but our RB coach is doing a great job.

I wonder what role Gase has in mind

Update.... oops maybe not so great in Gase's mind

Eric Studesville was the longest-tenured Broncos coach on staff. Served as interim HC in 2010 & was promoted to asst. HC last yr. Studesville was the one who encouraged C.J. Anderson to pick up cycling in the offseason, which helped Anderson to his first 1,000-yd season

    If CJ is cut...

    I love this..

Anderson, who rushed for a 1,000 yards this season, is obviously not pleased with the move to let go long time RB coach Eric Studesville.

People here have been wanting coaches with experience but somehow I have the feeling that some people would complain about this hire too

Anderson and Drake in the backfield would be sick....but the Broncos aren’t letting him go.

I'm ok with it but would love to see interest in someone on the def side too. We list a few games via our play and need a bit of a makeover.

the Miami Dolphins have fired RB coach Danny Barrett, per a league source. The team will be talking to former Broncos RB coach Eric Studesville about a staff position --possibly RB but possibly something else -- as @alexmarvez reported.

    There you go

Studesville is very well respected. Sounds like a strong hire if we bring him in.

Hope he brings CJ Anderson with him

Terrell Williams has not been good under Philbin or Gase, he only stayed because Gase was blocked from getting the guy he wanted. He has to go.

I was also deeply unimpressed with what Frank Bush did with the linebackers

You would think at least a couple of defense coaches would be in the hot seat. I know is mostly the players but still the defense was pretty bad too

Right. Nothing about being a respected coach or the Giants being interested in him or how experienced he actually is..... I swear, this battered fan syndrome has taken over this fan base and its incredibly sad. We have a bunch who eagerly wallow in misery.

I don't understand how people complain about Gase hiring "buddies" but isn't he letting some of those buddies go? It has nothing to do with friends. He's making changes because things for the offense haven't worked out. If he doesn't change anything then people will complain but when he makes changes then people complain for that too

I could see the lack of preparation being related to inexperienced coaches. I guess we will find out next year. I'm guessing this guy will be a RB/asst head coach

If you're gonna poopoo the hire, at least drop a little knowledge instead of dropping these turdlike posts.

Again, I don't see the point in getting worked up about anybody Gase hires. If it gets us to the playoffs next year, well done, it was his staff. If it doesn't, they can all hit the road together.

Apparently you've never managed anyone in a situation where you were the accountable party, yet had to remain mostly hands off for whatever reason. In that situation, given a choice between someone you've worked with before and respect and someone you haven't but has a good rep, ties will always be broken in favor of the person you know. It's one of the few ways you can de-risk a high profile hire.

Can’t possibly be good. He existed on the same planet as Gase at one point. Therefore it’s just some dude he knows. It might even be nepotism. What’s next, importing snow from Denver and Chicago so he can blame next year’s 22 loss season in the weather? When is everyone going to wake up?

Well, when we're no better than 8-8 next season and miss the playoffs yet again, we'll revisit how we're stuck in mediocrity.
