Fins interview DL coach Kris Kocurek - now hired

Seems like it would be a great hire but watch some people complain anyway

Ozzy rules!!

so as someone above asked this is a lateral move? which i believe detroit can block him from moving correct?

From what I have seen, the Lions are moving to a 3-4 which in that case they probably wouldn't care.
edit: they already granted permission for the interview and while the 3-4 thing isn't set, Matt Patricia is supposed to get the HC job and would probably not keep him anyway

Matt Patricia has never coached anywhere but NE. Not sure the extent of his future assistant prospects. What sort of contacts could he possibly have? He may opt to keep some of the staff.

Brought to Detroit in 2009 by then-head coach Jim Schwartz, Kocurek is one of the Lions’ longest-tenured assistants. Besides the unmissable intensity he brings to the job, Kocurek has gotten great results from superstar talents like Suh all the way down through undrafted guys like Anthony Zettel.

Former head coach Jim Caldwell retained Kocurek when Caldwell replaced Schwartz in 2014, and I thought likely new head coach Matt Patricia would do the same.

Maybe not.

Though Kocurek is well-respected around the league, he doesn’t have experience coaching the kind of hybridized multiple front Patricia uses in New England. With an uncertain situation and new decision-makers in town, it’s only natural Detroit experiences some brain drain as coaches explore other opportunities.

Then again, just as with Patricia’s hire, Kocurek’s move isn’t yet final. In fact, Breer’s report only notes Miami sought (and was granted) permission to interview Kocurek, not that the interview has occurred or the job was offered.

Ansah is gonna get around $14-15M per year. Not sure we can afford it for a guy who has predominantly played weak side....after we just spent a first round pick on one as well as the stupid contract to Branch. Don't see it in the plans.

Its a done deal.

The Detroit Lions have lost another assistant coach, this time their longest-tenured assistant on the defensive side of the ball.

Defensive line coach Kris Kocurek has agreed to become defensive line coach of the Miami Dolphins, his wife Amy confirmed Wednesday on Facebook.

Kocurek joined the Lions as assistant defensive line coach in 2009 under Jim Schwartz, and was promoted to head defensive line coach a season later.

In Miami, he'll reunite with former Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, and work under his old colleague with the Lions, Dolphins defensive coordinator Matt Burke.
