First Trip To Miami to Catch a Game-Need Your Help!!!!

Hi Guys,

My family and I were planning our first trip to Miami simply to watch a Fins game. I just have few questions.

I am flying from the Los Angeles area, so what would be the best airport to fly into.

Which area to stay in, I am assuming South Beach, but am not 100%

and what hotels are nice. I have an infant, so i want to make sure it is in a nice area.

Thanks for you help!

Oh it will be the Bills game on 12/19/10.

What is the weather like during that time?

well if you were flying and going straight to the game, then you should fly into fort lauderdale. if you however are going to south beach first, then fly into miami international.

as for hotels, if you stay in south beach, im sure other people can give you better advice on hotels, but if you want to stay near the stadium, the hardrock casino is really nice, but alittle costly.

weather is usually mid 70s around december so shouldnt be to bad. enjoy your trip.

Is there alot to do around the stadium? I am not 100% that I will be staying in South Beach. to be honest, I rather stay close to the stadium. My wife wants to stay close to the tourist areas to avoid renting a car the whole time we are there.

the truth is ive been to florida many times in general, but i dont live there so im sure other people on this board would be able to give you a better idea.

if you want to stay close to the stadium, the hard rock casino is pretty close to it, alot closer than anywhere in south beach. as for things to do there, well the hardrock itself has lots of shopping stores there and in the surrounding area which im sure your wife would like, and i believe that aventura mall is not so far from there.

then again, im prob not the best person on this board to be giving advice, but im just trying my best to help a fellow fin fan out.

FLL is a much easier airport to get in and out of if you're not a local. I've flown to FLL almost everytime I've been down to FL. You said you have an infant you'd be bringing so if I was in your position, I'd stay north of South Beach, maybe North Miami Beach, Hollywood, or even Fort Lauderdale itself. Those areas IMO are quieter and not as bat**** as South Beach can be.

There isn't much around the stadium that I've seen, not yet anyway.

hard rock is beast and the weather is really great that time of year, never got to day games before november you will fry.

We have been flying in from California ourselves. This will make our 5th year in a row. We always fly into Ft. Lauderdale. I've never flown into or out of Miami. The Dolphins actually play much closer to Ft. Lauderdale then Miami. We've stayed in Ft. Lauderdale each time once spending a week in Hollywood. We drove into Miami once and that was enough for me. If you stay in Ft. Lauderdale depending upon your tastes you can just hang out on A1A right across the beach. Good food and drink all up and down the strip. There is a water taxi that can take you over to some fancy area if the beach bum scene doesn't work for you. All I really know is what I've done and that for the most part is Ft. Lauderdale and I'm right at home on the beach. As others have said someone who actually lives there could probably give better advice. Have fun, you're gonna love it!

Fly into Ft. Lauderdale regardless. It's much cheaper. Flights are on time, etc.

Don't stay on South Beach. It's overpriced, overrated, and overmedicated. I'd recommend Ft. Lauderdale lol. Hollywood, Hallendale, etc. Much cheaper than South Beach and you don't have to pay for a valet at every hotel (unless you stay at like the Westin Diplomat in Hallandale).

There's nothing worth seeing around the stadium so once you leave, get back on the turnpike and get back to Lauderdale. About the only thing around the stadium is a Wal-Mart, Burger King, a few gas stations, and some other low-end restaurants.

Weather will be fine. Mid 60's probably. Perfect time of year. Best thing to do is get on Priceline and let Shatner hook you up. You can get a room at the Diplomat for about $80 a night. Valet parking is about $14 each time you park at the hotel though. But you can hop on Priceline and find hotels in the area that you wish to stay in for CHEAP.

Anything else just let me know.
