Guys back in the summer of '84 our 1 draft pick in '81 David Overstreet died in a one car accident. When Shula drafted him in 81 he chose to sign with the CFL. But we didnt miss him that much because Tony Nathan was solid that year as well in the '82 SB campaign. He finally signed with us for the '83 season. That year he showed flashes but because he played in a lower leauge it took him a while to relearn what he didnt know he would lose. Anyway 84 was supposed to be his year but then the fatal car accident occured and the draft had already taken place. Also no such thing as Free Agency. Well, Shula felt needed a feature back so with about 2 games into that season he traded for San Diego's Chuck Munice in exchange for a 2nd in '85. (Meanwhile starting FB Andra Franklin blows out his knee and he is gone as well) This Chuck Munice was very talented no question. However he tested positive for Coke which negated that trade. So San Diego offered FB Pete Johnson (WHO? exactly!) instead for the same 2nd in '85. This guy had a weight problem and couldnt beat anybody out that we already had and did'nt do anything that year and retired the next. However we were still on the hook though for the draft pick. We still made it to the SB that year despite this. It turns out that Tony Nathan and Woody Bennett were just fine. The moral to this rant is don't rush in and make stupid moves which cost us future draft picks, go with what you have!
