Fox gets "Thursday Night Football"

"NFL ratings for the regular season were down 9.7 percent this season after an 8 percent drop in 2016. A typical game was watched by 14.9 million viewers, or 1.6 million fewer people this season as compared to last season (16.5 million)."

I watched less this year. Especially Thursday games.

Agree, at least I know the one Thursday game I watch a year will be on local broadcast.

Didn't Fox get this deal by default because the other networks backed out due to hefty price tag?
 
Only way I can see Thursday games working in conjunction with byes is if they go to some double headers. Reason being is you cant have bye weeks in the first few or last few weeks of season. If they do 6 double headers and 4 single games they could start the byes in week 5 and be done before last few weeks of season and cover all 16 match ups. The double headers would consist of early east coat match up followed by late west coast match up. Each team would get 10 days before and after Thursday game eliminating the preparation issue they have today.
