Having not played football beyond a little in Jr. High and HS, how much direct impact does a head coach have on players and their development? Do they have more impact or is that really on the assistant coaches?
Philbin seems like a great coach but how much does he really directly affect the skills of the team's players?

I would think the position coaches have a greater effect on the players as they work directly with them and teach them the various techniques. Where as the head coach over sees the direction of the team, but still has an influence, especially on game days

Never played past HS, so I can't say, BUT......How many coaches that are considered inept have coached
in a Super Bowl?

Not many.

Most pro players are still conditioned from HS, and college, and so on to respond to directive
authority. I think coaching is still vitally important.
