How the Vontae Davis trade went down

If they wanted Vontae that bad, Ireland could have gotten more...heck Ireland didn't get more than what he paid for him.

Really, like how much more do you think? 1st and a 2nd and a 6th?

CK, you forgot the part at the end where Hoops became butt hurt because you were right all along and this deal is kinda the tie breaker for that bet you guys had last season.

Again, I propose a rematch to that draw. Guru badges on the line. Vontae and Smith on different teams. Their play has no effect on the others now. But, it dosent appear anyone has the balls.

Yes, because the Jets are the example we want to follow. Next up, our roster will stop picking up trash and start sexual harrassing reporters while Philbin makes a foot fetish porno and its discovered that Tannehill's wife is 16. The Pats havent hit on a second round pick in years and have only continued to stay relevant because of Brady. That one is probably accurate of the Dolphins, as Ireland hasnt been able to land a second round pick yet.

The justifications for Ireland get more and more hilarious. "2 wrongs make a right! The Jets did it so Miami should copy them!!!!!".

OUCHHHHHHH.....This is the terrible secret people continue to ignore! But hey its the mighty patriots so it doesn't matter.

The delusion is hilarious. There isnt a single source out there saying it was Philbin pushing this trade, yet people insist on it like its fact.

I dont think you understand Armando's story. It wasnt a complete story. It was a story about the negotiations of the trade, not a story on what factors lead Miami in to making a trade - and those factors were not mentioned in Armando's story. Sure, Ireland did the negotiating as Armando reported, but to suggest that Ireland didnt consult Philbin about Davis makes you delusional.

Lets connect the dots in CK sotry here. First the Colts contact Ireland about Vonte and offer a low round pick, second the Colts contact Ireland about Vonte and offer another pick not as low, third the Colts contact Ireland about Vonte and offer another pick not as low, fourth the Colts contact Ireland about Vonte and offer another pick, Ireland asks Philbin and Coyle their opinion on the matter, Coyle and Philbin have made Vonte their nickle back so they say sure he is not a starter and give the trade their blessing, Ireland calls back the Colts garners the 2 pciks from the Colts from Vonte. I guess I am not sure what a GM is suppose to do in this instance. Not pursue trades and have your coaching staff not sign off on them. Yea I do agree finally agree with you CK that Ireland must go but for seperate reasons he hired a dumb coach and here we are. I could go on and on and its speculation on everyone part. All this moaning about how bad Ireland, and the lack of playmakers on this team and IMO most everyone here has missed the most important issue reagrding this team. The coaching staff. While we looking one way we lost sight of what it takes to be a winner. You do not take a defense in 1 year that was ranked in the top 5 to 10 defenses the past 3-4 years and have it play like and look like garbage through three preseason games and not consider the coaching staff the issue. Special teams was an issue on this team until we fired the head ST coach, Mike Nolan is gone and the defense stinks already. Does not take a real genius to figure this thing out. I not kicking Ireland out because of the players playing stinky, but I am willing to kick him out for hiring stinky coaches.

Nah. Balls or not, the bet's over. I lost. I didn't lose because hoops was right for wanting to exit the bet early. I lost because the terms of the bet showed Vontae allowed slightly fewer yards per pass snap. Simple as that.

Now, whether the results made my point or not, that's up for interpretation. I feel my point was made. It seems you do as well. To each their own.

You guys are all on crack if you don't believe that Ireland and the coaches keep a rolling conversation going about who might be expendable from a trade point of view, as they hone down the roster. Vontae Davis would have been on the top of that list.

Well apparantly the people in this thread dont think Philbin had any input on Vontae Davis' expedability because Armando Selguero didnt report it. As we all know, if Armando didnt report it, then it didnt happen :chuckle:

butt hurt...what are you talking about wv??? i'm game for whatever...

polish your game up...rob gronkowski was a 2nd round pick...and he's ten times anything we have

There it is. Hoops just earned points in my book. Gotta admit, I like his fire.

CK, on the other hand.......... kinda lame to back down like that. I mean, your boy Sean Smith is supposedly playing so well now. And Vontae will have to hold his own in Indy. With the two of them on seperate teams, the cream will truly rise this year. Run it back. Ali v Fraizer II. Unfortunately it seems CK stands for Chicken Krap. Hooshoops stands for HH.... HUGE HangingBalls

The Pats have also hit some nice players in the draft. They got two top 5 TEs in Gronk and Hernandez. They hit on Jerrod Mayo and Patrick Chung.

I dunno. Basically what Im getting at as that they are winning between 13 and 16 games every year and even when Brady goes down they are good for 11. I think its a bit misleading to point to a few blown second rounders and say their management and ours are pretty equal.

"Ireland was open to the idea of trading Davis, but at a price he wanted. That goes back to the Bill Parcells school of thought that "Everybody is on the trade block all the time." (For the right price)."

The Bill Parcells school of thought? Thanks so much Armando including this to link Jeff Ireland's current actions back to philosophies taught by his mentor, the grand poobah of tuna fish.

Why was this necessary to say? Isn't it blatantly obvious that every single player in the NFL is ALWAYS AVAILABLE IN TRADE FOR THE RIGHT PRICE? Did Ireland HAVE TO learn that from Bill Parcells? Was that a new thing when Parcells said it? Name the "untouchable" players in the NFL, that if a crap team came up to them and offered them their next 5 first round draft choices (or pro bowl caliber veterans), they would say no?

the colts wanted vontae, and i'm sure they didn't want to give up their number 2 (compunded by the fact that they may win 4 games this year). ireland wasn't even thinking about trading vontae. they approached him. when they decided to get silly and way overpay, ireland did what was best for this franchise in the long run (anti-job security move there). that is what you want in a GM, and i still can't believe he got their second and a conditional sixth.

CK, while the kids continue to pout and cry and ask for their bottle of milk back let's move onto a more adult conversation.
Given your background with the draft and our new standings with picks we now have and the rounds we have to use them. Is this upcoming draft strong for the position of needs we have at this point

Wr, Db, S, DE?

Specifically this should be a banner DE class. The WR class depends on a lot. The seniors don't look very good at all and of the juniors, already Da'Rick Rogers has shown his @ss by getting kicked off the Vols and transferring to Tennessee Tech. We're one surprise stay-in-school announcement and one injury on an injury prone guy (Justin Hunter) away from this WRs class being a little bare...I think. I like Marquess Wilson and Keenan Allen best, but both are still underclassmen. I like Justin Hunter if he fills out and proves he can stay healthy. I like Stedman Bailey a lot, but he is also a junior. The seniors I like are Aaron Mellette and Terrance Williams. I'm probably forgetting a few. Andre Bebose is another junior with great speed and big time play making ability.

The S class looks pretty good so far to me. Say what you want about T.J. McDonald, he's got something to his game. I like Kenny Vaccaro a lot. I like Matt Elam even more. Nickoe Whitley is a guy I've yet to scout but I know Slimm loves him and I tend to take his word as I think he's earned it. We'll see if Eric Reid is worth the squeeze. I'm not sure yet. Baccari Rambo has potential if he plays smarter. There are a few underrated types in there as well.

So your upset because Armando's "speculation" is different then your own speculation. Hilarity. Theres more to the story because....well, you want there to be more to this story. Because you lack any sort of evidence you assume there is evidence out there. How any reasonable person can assume thats not delusion is beyond me.

Ireland undoubtable "consulted" with Philbin. By consulted i mean, as the boss, he told Philbin what was going to happen. Telling Philbin what was going to happen does not mean Philbin pushed for this trade that so many are insisting. As well, Philbin dictating roster moves is not his job. Ireland is in charge of the roster and Ireland has a long history of making questionable moves. This is just par for the course with him.

If you have proof that Philbin acted outside his job description and forced Ireland for this trade, feel free to present it. Oh wait, a minute! There is none and the proof that is available shows Ireland was the one who made this trade. Oh well. Just 5 more years until we are contenders!
