Just gonna say that Delta has fixed their pricing problem. It was based on their algorithm that is not built to deal with emergencies like this.

The person who made that tweet contacted Delta and they came to a resolution. Honestly I think the tweet should be taken down if it was just a mistake that's been fixed.

So we booked flights to Cancun on Friday. Came to under $300 with points for 2 people and a lap infant. We will stay at a cheap hotel near the airport. We will monitor the hurricane. If it continues westward putting Cancun in its path we will just skip the flight and eat the cost. If the flight is cancelled, we just stay and ride out the storm.

I was surprised to see tickets that cheap. It's basically the only available flight out of Fort Lauderdale with reasonable prices. I guess people aren't thinking about going that direction. I know there is another storm over Mexico, but its west of Cancun and not going toward Cancun.

They need to focus on fixing their algorithm. Too big of a company to have something like that in place . . . .and the tweet should stay up until Delta can confirm that this won't happen again in a emergency situation.

Trending tweets are any company's worst nightmare in 2017. I wonder if a customer called them about it would they have been as receptive to a price adjustment.

They didn't make any changes because they like to see consistency in the projections, but most if not all now have the broad shifting East.

They'll probably wait another window or two before making major changes. Don't let that scared you much.

I will say this, most of the models have it curving before FL and into the Bahamas. Out of like 20 paths, 1 was way into the Gulf, 3 were over FL and the rest curving right before FL and over the Bahamas . . . So the likely hood of the eyewall passing over us has gotten smaller, but certainly not to be dismissed

That said, we are gonna get slammed no matter what due to the overall size of the storm . . . Just how bad is still up in the air.

They need to keep the panic mode in until they know for sure. Too many times they have overdid it and it moved but just as many times they have let down and the storm wobbles and gives us a bigger impact.

Irma is not one to be coming to absolutes on. Prep like a Cat 5 is on the way until we are certain it isn't. That time is not here yet

I thought price gouging was against the law during a state of emergency.

They did already shift it tho. At 11, the track had it climbing the west coast . . .at 5 a.m. It was tracking over the middle of the state.

The cone doesn't change much because there are still trackers that take it out in the Gulf.

Yep that is my thought and honestly they should do a press release ensuring people something like that never happens again. Ridiculous.

Sister in law and her husband weren't able to make it off of St. Thomas so they will have to ride it out. Probably won't be able to communicate with them for a while as they just have cell phones and believe their cell service will not work. We will be waiting to hear from them. Pray everyone who cannot get out of the way of this storm stays safe!

Hoping those latest projections showing it turning north sooner and skimming the east side of the state remain. My pops plan is to ride out the storm in Miami. We rode out Hurricane Andrew together, hiding under a mattress while the roof disappeared. I begged him to fly up north to me and avoid Irma, but like most South Floridians that went through Andrew, he's stubborn. Stay safe Dolfans.

Sounds like my stubborn old man. lol

My dad is in Ft Laud and lives on his sailboat in Bahia Mar. He said he's staying put unless he is projected for Cat 4 or higher.

All the best to you and your family.

The modules are really starting to come in agreement. Still hoping for more turn - to keep us farher on the left side. That shoild bring more rain but heavier winds to stay offshore to the right. Its still going to be bad unless we get real movement which is prob. Not likely or just as it approaches it seems.

Could be lots of damage up the whole east coast of the state etc. ugh

The good news is the latest two forecasts shifted Irma to the East,
    145453_5day_cone_no_line_and_wind 3.png

But please be advised the latest does not include the latest model runs.
The European takes about 6 hours to run and should be included in the 5pm advisory.

Hate that it is speeding up . . . That is gonna **** us as the storm gets here quicker and doesn't allow the front to move the storm north soon enough.

    Moved these here b/c . . . nvrmd

It goes both ways. Many have hurricane proof houses and built in bunkers within their houses to withstand such storms. My sister in WPB stayed with a family last year with those accommodations in place and said she couldn't even hear the winds of Hurricane Matthew inside the residence.

Nothing more really than a centrally located concrete safe room built to withstand extreme weather (or doomsday room I guess as well LOL). You can't dig underground here in Florida, especially near the coastline, b/c of issues with sinkholes and coral rock. The vast majority of these houses are built to withstand Cat 5 anyways with the only major problem being beach erosion.

Sorry I am not able help you here. I honestly have no idea about architecture, construction, or building codes beyond just having seen such things.
