I will be on a cruise Sunday and I called ahead, they unfortunately will not have the game on. :( BUT, I will be bringing my mac and using direct ticket. Has anyone ever done that? I'm hoping if I buy the wifi, i'll be all good.

Thanks guys and FINS UP from the high seas!

Sorry dude, but you should know better than to plan a vacation during Dolphin season, unless you're going to Miami. This is your fault.

Planned the cruise so I was back in town for the Jets game, which I have tix for. Figured the cruise would have the game on. I'm guessing i'll be good with wifi. But, thanks for being a ****. ;)

Sky is in Nassau or GSC. The Pearl embarks on Sunday. The Epic has a sea day on Sunday.
So it will be the Epic. Great ship. Ugly but great. You going to love the Blue man Group.
Anyhow. Your chances are slim to none. The Epic sails in Europe in the summer so you will either have lots of soccer or a limited satellite West Coast package on the ship. It is an issue for a long time especially down here in Florida. Why can't cruise ships based down here, especially on the quick 3-Nighters, have a local TV package. There are many Dolphins fans who take short cruises over the weekend and they would like to see the team in road games on TV.
I do know that cruise lines are aware of that. Not sure if NCL has made changes yet. Just put in your mind that you will not see the game. Forget streaming. Internet on cruise ships are slow, very slow. Just get yourself a good app and follow the live ticker.

BUT, also don't trust shore based personal. I am assuming that's who you called. 90% of the time they have no clue what a ship does. Ship ops and shore ops are two different ball games.

With your mindset that you will not see the game you go to the technical staff onboard who is in charge for programming. They are on the lower decks. Ask them which NFL package they have on Sunday. Maybe you get lucky.

Otherwise, have a great cruise. Make sure you go to Orient and Maho Beach in St Maarten. Orient Beach (great beach) for the boobies and Maho Beach for the airplanes (you have to experience that).

When you get back let me know if you had the Fins on or not.

    happy sailing and smooth seas.

If you have a buddy who has a Slingbox, you can connect from your location to wherever your friend's Slingbox is at, as long as you can connect to Wi-Fi onboard. I would buy a Slingbox as a gift for someone for Christmas so they can hook you up. :woot: Or just hook up a Slingbox at your place.

WiFi on Cruise ships are expensive...and buying 4 hours worth can buy you a 3day carnival cruise, Lol (Though I've never been on that line so I could be wrong, but from my experience they are SUPER slow and crazy priced.)

Next time you go on a short cruise make sure you book when the team is playing monday night. That way ifyou get back in the morning you'll be set.

I was on a Disney cruise last Sunday at Port Canaveral.
Boarded at noon and went straight to the pub. Phins-Pats was on. Phins won and the next 4 days were paradise.

Check on Cruise critic and see if anyone on the ship in the last month remembers what the home market for the on board channels are, I was on the Carnival Breeze at Thanksgiving and they were showing Miami TV... To bad the Dolphins couldn't stop the Panthers last drive... Ruined an otherwise perfect cruise!

I believe it would be IP locked to the US, but there are a few programs one could use to adjust the IP address. Just not sure how it will work since the cruise liner is not stationary.

The packages sold these days aren't to expensive. It is of course in the eye of the beholder. The bigger problem is the connection.

OP is on a 7-Night Eastern Caribbean cruise across the holidays. No shorty. And not cheap either.

3mbp on a cruise ship? Please. LOL.

That's why I was asking what ship he was on. If he would sail the Pearl on Sunday his changes to have the local CBS while in port would have been big. Worst case scenario he could check-in, grab a cap and watch the game in a local bar and board the ship right after.

The Epic sails on Saturday though and he will be in the Florida straights between Florida and the San Juan in the middle of nowhere depending on the ships satellite feed.

It is slow. It works for email and regular browsing. Once you try to stream or receive streams you will be cut off frequently while the receivers adjust to the position.

Oh don't send him there. Those people can be more vicious than football fans. He will get this "shut up and enjoy your cruise" probably plenty and in different versions.

You'll need an internet connection which you can pay for on the ship. The ships internet is satellite and generally is only good for email and quick checks of scores. The fee for access is ridiculous regardless of what cruise line you take. I'd guess 3-4 hours of internet (about time of game) would cost you $100 plus and you streaming will clock out endlessly even if you do access the game.

My advise...DVR it and watch it when you get back. Pretty sure you'll be able to find other things to fill your time. NCL has some pretty damn good entertainment options and I've been on the majority of cruise lines.

    This may help:

ill be heading out on Carnival Conquest this Sunday. Each year we go for a holiday when the fins are playing. Head to the sports bar on the cruise or the casino with TVs. Ive slid the bar tender $20 to change it to the fins game if they didn't or "couldn't" put it on. Sometimes the ships satellites aren't aligned to get the game. 3 yrs ago when we had the thanksgiving game I remember a bunch of Dol-fans flooding the bar for the cowboys game on thanksgiving. They called an engineer to do something with the ships dishes and had the game on within 10-15 minutes. It wasn't in HD but it was on. We lost.

Can confirm what everyone says about ship internet. It is satellite and streaming will be so god awful slow due to buffering it wouldn't work. I usually buy internet and bill my office as an expense. Its slow... almost dialup slow at times. If its cloudy forget it.

Just enjoy the cruise. We are playing Barfalo. You can find out what happened off the internet or when you get home. Just put the game out of your mind and focus on the MILF's around the pool.

I used to work for RCCL and have been stuck going on cruises for work during the season. I also boarded a cruise the day of the panthers game this year.

I tried to watch the game on my phone with 4g and guess what? Sunday ticket on mobile devices uses the GPS to block you from locally broadcast games. A laptop with an ip for the ship... Who knows where that will be geolocated.

If the game isn't on the 1 football channel, you are pretty much screwed. The wifi connection on ships is great now, but the bandwidth is terrible. The whole ship is serviced by satellite. And, only a small slice of the satellite bandwidth is available to guests.

I used to have access to the corporate side of the network and I could barely watch a YouTube video.

I would be shocked if you could watch the game effectively on the ship. I've tried it and only been frustrated.

My suggestion is to bring a radio and listen to the broadcast.

I never plan anything that will interfere with Miami Dolphin games. NEVER!

My wife knows this too. Make a plan during a game, plan to go alone. I did make an exception a couple weeks ago when a close relative died and I had to drive to Florida for the funeral. I found the local radio station that had the game on and listened to it.
Maybe the Op can listen to the game instead of watching it?

I have never been on a cruise ship, so I know nothing about their internet capabilities. But I do know if you have DirectV and the Sunday Ticket / with device access, you can watch any game in the continental US. Isn't Wifi, Wifi?
Whats the difference between wifi on the open ocean and wifi in your hotel room? I know I can watch the game in a hotel room with the Ticket.
