With all of the dumb mistakes that Ryan keeps making (Don't get me wrong, I love the kid) is Geno Smith farther along at this point than our very own RT?????? What do you all think?:hclap:

Hard to tell, Marino was better than Elway early on, but Elway went to more Super Bowls and actually won a couple.

Records don't lie and you are as good as your record says you are. I'm looking for intelligent replies here. In NY (where I live) there is tremendous hype surrounding Geno. Don't take my post at just face value.

I'll just give you the short answer......NO.......T-Hill is clearly a better QB than Geno. Re-watch the 1st 3 Jets games and you will never think crazy things again. Here's a abit of PFF info, T-Hill is current ranked #8 (with an 8.3 overall rating) Gino is rated #21 (with a -1.6 rating overall) that's -1.6 (as in negative overall rating) so IMHO I have no idea why you think that Gino is better T-Hill.

OP didn't watch Geno's 4 games played against teams that weren't missing 5 defensive starters. In which he was ****ing godawful.

A lot of Tannehill's picks are on receivers this year. Tannehill has made a few bad throws but ones that go off his receiver's hands or their thigh and bounces into defenders hand I can't really get mad at him

no, but I think Geno is already better than snatchez. He's more accurate than sanchez already. They both make mistakes, but I think I've ever seen a game where mark completed 86% of his passes, actually most of marks games, he only made like 55% of his passes. Franchise qb there ha.

Geno, you played a good game but instead of posting on football forums shouldn't you be getting ready for the Steelers? I know they're not as good as they used to be but I think that still may be a tough game for you guys with them having an extra week to prepare.

Geno is not as good a decision maker.
They are about equal as far as arm.
Geno is more of a gamer.

Ryan does not make dumb mistakes, Geno does.

Jets Oline has been damned good this year and Geno has still played some terrible games. If he was behind our **** Oline you couldn't even think about this argument.

    :not sure if serious:

Geno had complete meltdowns vs the Titans and Patriots... Tannehill hasn't had a clunker that bad since his first ever game against Houston... (Although he did struggle vs the Titans last year too.)

The thing with Geno is that he reminds me a bit like Sanchez. When things are going good, its all great, but the second there is any adversity, he disintegrates like slug on salt. I am actually happy that he is experiencing some early success because that means the Jets wont address the QB position in next year's draft, and they will be stuck with another QB that will follow the "Sanchez trajectory"...

There is also something about his attitude that is Vince Young-ish. Not something I want from my QB.

It's not even close right now. Tannehill is establishing himself as a very capable starting QB. Geno has a long way to go still.

Tannehill is definitely better but its not even a fair argument because Geno has only played 5 games.

Let's see if Geno Smith can actually go 2 or 3 straight games without turning the ball over 3 times then we'll talk.

Agreed, I'll be interested in watching Geno's progression if for no other reason to see if he is going to become a long term threat....that won't be determined this year, but so far to me he's looked like he's progressing in a positive fashion which is bad news, it's too early to tell for sure but the same goes for our guy as well.

I should also say I've been very impressed with what EJ Manuel has done so far, so this division might very well shape up to be one of the toughest in the next year or two.

Look. Geno had a terrific game Monday night no doubt and even though I HATE The Jets, I am happy for the good Jets fans here because after the Suckchez debacle they may have finally found their guy. With that being said, at this point it's not even close. Geno has 8 interceptions to Ryan's 5 and Ryan has a much better qb rating right now. Also, at this point in his career Geno still has a tendency to make that critical rookie mistake like the behind the back, Globetrotter fiasco a couple of weeks ago. Ryan Tannehill is keeping his team in games right now despite having a terrible offensive line, Geno Smith is capitalizing on having maximum protection and doing a better job of finding the open man- which isn't a knock on him, it's what he is supposed to do. Right now Ryan Tannehill is much closer to a franchise qb IMO. I'm not saying he's perfect, but better than Geno at this point in their careers.

Another valid point. Geno still has a long way to go. It would be more fair to compare where he is when he's played as many games as Tannehill has. I am making a mental note to revisit this thread after week 5 of the 2014 season.

It's still way too early for either, I don't think Ryan has had as good of a game that geno had the other night but I don't think Ryan has had as bad of a game that geno had the week before. Long way to go for both.

That's not true, that's guy who had comebacks on the road in postseason so he's had better games and at his worst he was never worse than Geno the week before. That was a terrible performance by Geno at Tennessee.

Mark S a n c h e z but since he's not available I will reserve judgment until either player actually does something in this league.

Im a huge Neer fan..and I like Geno alot..but Id much rather have Tannehill. Ryans got a much stronger arm..is more accurate...and has a better head on his shoulders.

I think Geno can be a really good Qb as well though..and I hope things work out for him in NY and they have shoot outs for the next ten years

Geno definitely a better deep ball passer. I would bet he would have more td's to Wallace right now. It's too early to judge though..

I wouldn't expect you to say anything less. Mark is the same guy who went 10 for 30 for 119 yards with 0TDs and 6 Ints against Buffalo, but he has never had as bad a game as Geno did against Tennessee.

"Only" had 5 INts vs. Buf. geno had 1 less TO but each TO turned into a TD and he dropped back 15 yds to nearly get us a safety(if the defender let him take another step we have a safety) and he dropped back another 15 and went around the back to give Ten a TD. That was worse than mark vs. Buf in his first cold weather game.

According to ESPN's total QBR stat, they are both pretty close so far. Not that I love this stat.

    Tannehill-44.9 QBR

    Smith-43.7 QBR

Tannehill is in year 2, he should be better right now. Geno is a rookie learning a new system and the speed of the NFL. Hes made some dumb rookie mistakes, but hes also made a lot of "wow" plays that shows his talent. I think Geno is going to be better than Sanchez, but will he be a franchise QB? Still early in the season, who knows how good Geno will be or Tannehill. But lets not act like Tannehill has been a star so far.

But how about their first 5 games?

    Tannehill-

    169 attempts 97 completions. 57%

    2 TD 5 INT

    1,269 yards

    1 rushing TD

    Smith-

    156 attempts 94 completions. 60%

    7 TD 8 INT

    1,289 yards

    1 rushing TD

I just don't understand how anyone could want Sanchez. The guy's whole legacy is based on 4 road playoff wins in 2 years. Impressive, yes, but the guy was incredibly erratic throughout both seasons. In 2011 he did the same thing minus the playoff wins and then in 2012 he was awful.

He never proved himself to be anything more then a below average QB who was capable of elevating his level of play from time to time.

Idk what Geno is going to end up being, but so far i'm fairly happy with what i've seen and happy to put the Mark Sanchez days behind me.

That's the way most people ( Dolphins fans, Jets fans, and everyone else) see Sanchez. The potential was there but he just didn't have the mindset to be a leader of men. You could clearly see that he lacked confidence and it showed in his play. There is one guy on this forum who will disagree though and I expect to see his rebuttal shortly lol

other than the 4 playoff wins which double the next most of any QB in Jets history. Is that it? he gave us a chance to reach 2 SBs which our overrated Ds choked in to prevent us from going. He got us closer to a SB than at any point since SB III.

He had ONE bad year, a year w/ the worst offensive talent in the league(healthy talent) and Tony Sparano running things w/ the Tebow distraction hovering over the team.

This is why Jet fans don't deserve a winner, we finally have a guy we can win big with and they want him gone b/c he sucked in a situation no QB could succeed in.

Obviously I know Mark's career as a Jet is over(barring something incredibly crazy) but I'd take a healthy Mark on my team any day. It's not his fault since 2010 the talent eroded around him.

He went from Braylon, Holmes, Cotch and Keller in 2010 to:

-losing Braylon and getting an older WR who just spent 2 years in prison, picking up an old WR in camp and having 3 of his top 5 weapons out of football the next year.

-in 2012 he saw Chaz Schilens starting, he lost Holmes and his favorite target keller, Clyde Gates couldn't make the dolphins yet he played a prominent role for us picking him up after the season began.

Mark has proven he can win big in this league but you need talent. heck, look at Eli w/ talent Mark has never had and he's 0-5. Look at ben w/ little talent(still much more than mark had last year). Unless your name is Tom Brady you need talent to throw and handoff to in this league. When mark had it he won big, when he didn't he sucked much like Eli and ben are sucking w/ much more talent right now.
