The question is whether Jim is speaking based on his own opinion or reiterating what Terry Pegula was reported to have informed Rex. The scuttlebutt last season was that Rex would have been "one and done" if not for the guaranteed money, so he lives to coach another day. And what does he do? Nepotistically hires his brother, who failed big time in Dallas and NO (where he tried to scapegoat Payton for being at fault).

Sort of reminiscent of Philbin who hired his butt buddy Sherman and only agreed to fire him when threatened with the loss of his own job. Love these HCs who put friendship and family above their teams' well-being. Ditto those coaches, again like pHilbin, who insisting on fitting "square peg" existing players into their "round hole" systems.

If the Bills don’t make the playoffs this year, it could be all over for Rex Ryan.

This is according to franchise legend Jim Kelly, who said on “The Jim Rome Show” on Thursday that if Ryan doesn’t get Buffalo back into the postseason for the first time since 1999, he’s likely getting axed.

“If we don’t (make the playoffs,) I think Rex is probably looking for another job,” Kelly said. “I think everybody knows that, including Rex, because for all of us, we have the nucleus to get it done.”

Kelly led the team to four straight Super Bowl appearances (no wins) in the early ‘90s and recently has overcome cancer.

Myers: Bills new media policy a joke, and Rex Ryan allowing it

The Bills currently have the longest playoff drought in the five major North American sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS.)

Ryan led the Bills to an 8-8 record last season, his first as Bills coach after being fired by the Jets following a 4-12 2014 campaign. Kelly’s comments essentially confirm a Buffalo News report from January which stated Ryan and general manager Doug Whaley were told by owner Terry Pegula that they’d both be fired if they miss the playoffs in 2016.

Dumping Ryan would be costly. He signed a five-year, $27.5 million deal last year and would still be owed $16.5 million if he were fired after the upcoming season.

And if he were to be fired two years after the Jets canned him, who knows if he'll get another chance at an NFL head-coaching job.
