The team needed to move on from Pouncey. Kilgore is 30, so I am hoping for the best.

C Daniel Kilgore suffered a torn hamstring in the Week 14 loss to the Jets.
It was initially reported Kilgore suffered a knee injury. He was placed on season-ending I.R. on Tuesday. Kilgore should be fine for a normal offseason.

Kinda curious why San Fran would sign him and then release him unless they wanted to free up cap space:
49ers re-signed C Daniel Kilgore to a three-year contract.

This was one of the 49ers' top priorities after re-signing Jimmy Garoppolo. Kilgore held his own in his first year as a 16-game starter, grading out as a top-20 run blocking center at PFF. The 49ers value Kilgore's leadership and veteran presence in the middle of their line. Kilgore's new deal locks him up through his age-33 season.

SF upgraded at center so Kilgore became expendable.

Now, post Pouncey's injury history. You know, so we can really compare the two.

Per my 49ers buddy (I know, truly scientific analysis) he’s injury prone and can be beat with some ease. But a “good backup”. The 49ers were gonna going to have him compete for the guard position with their new center.

Hopefully we also draft C.

It would be stupid to think we're getting "blue chippers" on the OL with no snags
drags or otherwise "discounts" we are willing to (statistically speaking) accept
the odds are we hit 50/50 -- winning lotto = 100% -- total loser = ZERO!

We've been good @Zero for way too long.

If someone who actually knows medicine better wants to correct me, but I think the biggest issue with Pouncey is his hip is a chronic condition. It's not getting any better, and he's in an immense amount of pain because of it. He played well last year, no doubt, but he was in a lot of pain week to week, and missed practice because of it. Kilgore Trout's injuries are unrelated football injuries. There doesn't seem to be anyone that will reappear at a later time, not the way POuncey's hip is.

Don’t think it’s an issue that they didn’t like Kilgore .... it was just that they had an opportunity to upgrade reliably, something that we should look at every now and then as well. You ‘could argue we just did.

9ers just mortgaged their future, so better protect by any means possible!

In this instance, I think we both got better!!

For shits and giggles I wanted to see what PFF rated each guy:

Pouncey got a soild C at 46.5. lol

Kilgore got a soild C at 51.0. lol
