Lockout to be lifted?

Goodell is now talking and he just announced some major news.

1. If the players vote yes tonight, the doors open on Saturday.

2. Free agency will start next Wednesday.

3. Hall of Fame game has been cancelled.

The Hall of fame game itself is kind of useless, but it's still really awesome to see fans from nearly all the NFL teams in the stands, the general excitement around the country due to the fact football has begun...and to see all the inductees walk out on the field in those blazin gold jackets.

:(

The doors would open on Saturday. Teams will apparently have three days (72 hours) to bring in their existing players, re-sign their free agents, sign rookies, etc.

Wednesday at midnight eastern would be the start of free agency and, presumably, most training camps.

Let's all remember though that this timeline only happens if the players also ratify the CBA tonight. That is not a slam dunk.

DeMaurice Smith seems like the kind of guy who would mess this up. But let's not be pessimistic. It's great that we're here.

Mort is reporting that D. Smith is ticked off about this move by the owners. Sounds like this thing is about to blow up and in a bad way.

Smith apparently sent the players an e-mail blasting the NFL and there proposal. Talk is that the players will NOT ratify the new CBA. Lockout remains on, and it might be on for awhile.
