Looking at this thing from Saban's point..
Our cap, if correct according to this site, states we're $11,646,128 over 2005 est. budget.
Projected personnel loss or restructure:
Fiedler $8,119,583 cap hit.
Seau $3,348,750
T. Bowens $2,910,000 dead cap smaller after 6/1
Surtain $8,380,000
Freeman $3,000,000
Zgonina $890,000
McIntosh $1,450,000 dead cap smaller after 6/1
Boston $3,880,000 Don't know implications of cut.
Thompson $1,757,500 Greatest savings prior to 6/1
Konrad $1,250,000 Greatest savings prior to 6/1
Total $34985833 - 11,646,128 = 23339705 -deadmoney(8059166)
= possible spending money of $15,280,539
? Does Chambers deserve $7,266,666 for last year's performance?
should he restructure his resignining?
Boston is 26, Booker is older, who do we keep?
PPl, if we decide to resign:
Sammy Knight
Minor
Greenwood
Draft picks, Rd 1: 1 2nd overall, Rd 2:0 Rd 3:1, Rd 4:1 Rd 5:1 Rd 6:0 Rd 7:1
5 overall.
We should be the 2nd pick of each round.
Based on this board's combined efforts in looking at weaknesses :D : We need.
LT, DT, DE, RB, QB, Center, and S, not neccessarily in that order.
Here's Saban's staff so far:

Looking at this, I don't know how we can argue about a sb next year, there's seems to be a lot of work left.
Not only do we need to get the coaches, we need to get players, and backups that can backup the good players.
Our Strenghts IMHO:
On D..based on the 4:3, since we don't know what the new Corr. will run.
LB's,
1 great DE
(as of right now, Sammy Knight is not signed, and Freeman is a question mark, along with Surtain. So I can't count our secondary as a strenght)
As I see it, all other positions are wide open for replacements, cuts and upgrades.
On O. Based on projected Lineham's O.
Guards, Srong arm QB, but culpepper did a lot of running???
WR's, if we keep Boston and Thompson. If not, then we're so so.
The rest of the O is wide open for replacements.
This is a 3 year rebuild in my opinion, with good success the next 2 years, we might sneak to the AFC championship by year 2. Of course if we get a good draft and some key FA's's we might make some noise this year, but it's more probable in year 2.
