The University of Maryland's Board of Regents on Monday voted unanimously to accept an invitation to join the Big Ten Conference and leave the Atlantic Coast Conference, sources told ESPN on Monday.

The board unanimously approved the move to the Big Ten, a regent told ESPN. An afternoon announcement is expected.

Sources also said that Rutgers is expected to follow the Terrapins and will announce its own move from the Big East to the Big Ten, possible as early as Tuesday. A Scarlet Knights move would give the Big Ten 14 members.

As a Big Ten fan I like seeing the Terrapins join the Big Ten, not so much with Rutgers.

Let 'em go.......they haven't been much in the ACC in a while. Let's see how they like having their heads handed to them in a REAL football conference.

funny, cause from a football side, Rutgers is a nice coup. They've been built into a solid program with only 1 losing season since 2005 and they have become a decent recruiting school (especially keeping the top NJ kids in Jersey)

Maryland helps every other sport but football right now. Edsall will probably be fired. If the current trajectory continues, they'll be the worst team in the Big 10 (Indiana is improving under Kevin Wilson. Yeah their below .500 this year, but they were in a lot of games until the end. They lack talent right now)

1 losing season playing weak scheds in the BE and Greg Schiano built that program from a laughingstock into a decent program. They are doing well post-Schiano this year but how long will that last? and many folks seem to think you are entering the NY market w/ Rutgers but no one outside of Piscataway, NJ and surrounding towns cares about Rutgers. NY is not a good college market.

meh. Doesn't really matter to me. Rutgers has their recruiting region, and my Wolverines really don't worry about that area. Rutgers now will be fighting against Penn State and Maryland for recruits
