the jets are good.
I posted a thread in the AFC EAST section about it. Check it out.
Actually the dolphins have 14 first place finishes when you include the strike shortened season in 1982 when the fish went 7-2 to win the division.
The Dolphins went to the super bowl that year and shutout that pansy team in my signature in the AFC Championship.
Not to be the negative guy, but let's look at the past 10 seasons...or really 5. Having a strong history is awesome, but I would rather have a strong present.
That is really crazy when ya consider out of the entire AFC east (including the colts) the only one of the teams that has a winning record vs us is the jets. And to be honest none of the rest are even close.
Right, that is all irrelevant.
What's relevant is we're the defending champions now and next year we've gotta do it again.
welcome to the 70s and 80s.
AGAIN, 1982 doesn't count as they used the standings based on conference NOT division.
Congrats on getting 10k posts by the way
This decade still isn't that bad considering the forgettable seasons Miami had in '04, '06, and '07.
Thanks, I think 5,000 of them have come in the last week
...and 2008, sealed in the final game vs. the Jets.
Why on earth would you choose this argument to wade into? The Dolphins have half as many division championships in the last 12 months as the Jets have in the last 38 years.
I recommend an argument about the Fins/Jets h2h record, instead.
From 1998-2008 the jets have as many div titles as the phins and we won one when Brady was playing in 2002- the only non-Pats div title in a year Brady was starting. Oh and we won one playoff game in each year we won a div title- how did the playoff game work out for you?
Playoff game(s). We beat the Indionapolis Colts when we won the division in 2001 during that same time frame. My point is...if you're going to suggest that the past is the past, and that we should focus on the present, you probably picked a bad year to do it.
(And you certainly shouldn't go back over a decade to try and prove your point if that's your argument.)
(By the way, I appreciate a logical, non-name-calling debate. Thanks for this.)
Your last div title before last year was 2000 not 2001 and yes you won a playoff game that year but not last year.
Thanks. I can have fun and trash talk a little but i prefer just straight football arguments. We all have our opinions and obviosuly being a Jet fan my opniion doesn't go over well w/ most folks on here but I enjoy good discussions w/ opposing fans.
I read this last night and was waiting for this thread to pop up.
OK Juncman. I prefer focusing on the present which is that we are the reigning champs of the AFC East but you keep trying to recapture the glory of the last 8 years and point out how the Jets have owned us the last 17 games (except last December and a fluke TD in Sep) but come on...........2 AFC East titles in 40 years??????
didn't you score a fluke TD to beat us in December and at the present it's a new season so if you don't like discussing the past at all why are we discussing last year?
Apologies - the game took place in 2001...the tiitle was in 2000. (I distinctly remember the game, the house I was vacationing in, the snow on the ground, what I was wearing, etc.)
...and no, we didn't win a playoff game last year. Of course, neither did you.
Because the first word in this thread is "historical."
ETA: Technically, it's the first word after the colon. You know what I meant.
On the other hand, I wouldn't discount the rich tradition of this team. That is why there are so many of us "older" diehard fans.
We are due for another run, much like the Cowboys (JJ's) and the Steelers.
Pats are classless nouveau riche
Repent and come out of the darkness. Become a Fin fan :chuckle:
Not to nitpick but the Miami-Indy playoff game was played december 30th, 2000.
I understand but Ted was talking about the present.
How did last years playoff game work for the Jets? I dont remember seeing it....
By the way you're def the best Jets fan that posts on this board.
I would think being the defending division champs is as present as can be.
That's sort of like saying that Mussolini was the best Fascist: it's all relative :chuckle:
Wow, the Jets have been in the divsion longer than the Colts, and the Colts still have more 1st place finishes ...lol
Okay. THAT was funny.
Cmon nyjunc, the only way one can be fair is by including everything! The fact that you only pick what is favorable to your Jetsies will never be accurate, and the fact that fin fans pick whats releveant to our team will never be accurate either, So, since you are such a well informed person in football matters, why dont you take the entire thing, the old, the new, the inbetween etc.... Put all that info toghter and let's see who has been the better team in the division?
And please be fair.
Again, I have NEVER tried to say the Jets have been better then the dolphins historically. It's no contest. Never once have I claimed we were better. I think that gets lost in some of the side discussions we have.
Remind me, what was the fluke TD?
Our strong armed QB(who we let Chad go for) dumped one in the hands of one of your DL and you scored a TD.
I knew you would come around!!
