Well its the off season and im sick of logo and Ireland talk, so here is a little filler thread.

Who do you think are our most underrated players? Both nationally and within the fanbase. Im not talking about the likes of Pouncey because he didn't make the pro bowl, Pouncey is a stud.

Il throw a few names out to start us off:

- Brandon Fields, the fact that he is a good punter has been accepted among Dolphin fans for a long time but this guy is special. In terms of ability and skill at his position Fields is hands down our best player and is one of the best players in the entire NFL, the guy is more than a good punter he is a proper weapon. Yes he doesn't play a flashy position that will earn him plaudits but Fields is elite.

-Anthony Fasano- plays tough, consistent football, never lets us down and comes up with a few big plays now and again. no he isnt a seam threat but he doesn't claim to be, that isnt how he trys to play the game. If Fasano played on a winning team partnered with a pass catching tight end like Gronk he would be a valued and highly thought of player. He made the best play of any Dolphins player this season that catch against the 49ers was brilliant, he blocked well all season and was our leading receiver of touchdowns.... yet a good few on here don't think he is worth a new contract - utter madness, put this guy on the open market and he wont last a day.

-Jason Trusnik, John Denney and Marlon Moore- They aren't great players, they wont be legends placed in the honour roll and they wont be mentioned on here in 15 years time, they are decent back ups at best and that's it. However all three are important to the Dolphins and have a long future with the team as they are exceptional special teams players, again not a flashy job but its a job that needs to be done regardless of whether you are going to be picking number one overall or winning the Superbowl! Denny is the longest serving player on the roster which means he is good at what he does.

-Chris Clemons- A damn good safety he isnt a pro bowler and gets overshadowed by Jones but this guy can play. He is really solid and very rarely lets us down. Another player who isnt flashy and is often overlooked. He is out of contract and we need to get him a new one, he has a good partnership with Jones.

I agree with Hayden.

Kevin Burnett is a top (based on this years play) 4-3 OLB. Mayo and Miller are the cream of the crop though.

You could still say Reshad Jones is underrated, not to us but in the NFL in general. But I can't think of a better SS right now today that is as complete a player Reshad is.

I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and presume you mean he is underrated

Cameron Wake... and before you guys jump all over me yes he is pretty well known, but he is the most complete 4-3 defensive end in the league and I never hear ESPN, NFL Network bring up his name

Clemons did a decent job, but I think R Jones really came on this season. Nolan Carroll when he was fit too.

I'm looking forward to see how Matthews progresses too.

He's on NFL network weekly it seems.

Hell they interview him ALOT.

Burnett doesn't get enough love.

I think Olivier Vernon is going to be a stud based on the limited action I saw.

Koa Misi looked good to me after the switch to the 4-3. I think he's still undervalued around here.

We're paying Carpenter quite a bit but his effortless distance, initial height, and great mechanics are a terrific combo in a kicker. He's not appreciated enough. I got sick watching so many college kickers line up poorly in bowl games. You can tell immediately if it's going to err right right of center or left of center, simply by the lousy alignment, like amateur golfers who invariably aim too far right. College hash marks are wider and countless kickers don't step it off properly from severe angles. They wander back there and merely guess. I can't believe none of the announcers point it out. Several of us play a game in Las Vegas sportsbooks, betting tourists on whether the kick will err left of center or right of center. You can watch him line up and set the price in your head immediately. Then the tourist will believe he's getting a bargain if you give him 6/5 on what looks like 50/50, but you know damn well it's easily 2/1 likelihood or greater. The only problem is sometimes when it's virtually smack in the middle and there are arguments over whether it was slightly left or slightly right.

Historically, Bill Stanfill is one of the best players in franchise history but you'd never know it based on how little recognition he receives.

Love the mention of Fasano - definitely underrated and you put it perfectly - if he was "just another piece of the puzzle" on a contender his skill set as a #2 TE would be invaluable... but on this Dolphins team everyone wants to throw him away.

I don't think Clemons is underrated, though. He doesn't make a lot of mistakes and is a pretty consistent tackler, but I don't think he is all that great either. He is about average and I think he is widely considered to be that.

Most underrated dolphin Karlos Dansby to me. Yes he is way overpaid but he is still a damn good linebacker easily the best on our team.

I haven't heard a single person say anything negative about Dansby this year other than his contract is too big - little off on that one.
