***Official 2007 Miami Dolphins Draft Thread (Day 2)***

This guy is Traylor's replacement . . . Evans and Manny just weren't projected NT's . . . this guy is. I expect him to be starting next year after Keith retires . . . excellent pick . . . I hope Free sticks around . . .because I would love for Houck to work with him. I thnk we will see ATleast 2 more OLinemen with our final 5 picks . . . Cam has seen Hudson do it before.

Welcome to the Phins Paul Solia!

:bighug:

I really wanted Free or Beekman here but he was my 3rd choice. He's our NT of the the future. Good pickup.

I am so stoked. Put him next to former Ute Steve Fifita @ DT and you have some major beef occupying space in the middle of the line.

So, should Manny & Rod not work out... no worries. Does this make Vickerson the odd man out?

reading the draft tracker i cant find our 5th round pick? sorry to sound stupid but i cant actually remember what or who we spent that on. could someone refresh my memory? cheers

soliai is a good player, but I thanks we have many DT or DT with wright, vickerson, fifita, evans and traylor, it's a good choice in value term but I would prefered doug free or fred bennett because we need 2 OL a corner and why not a LB everett if he fall.

Soliai's Problem

He is unmotivated at times. Like at a bunch of these big uglies. He has all the talent to suceed as a 2 gap DT in the NFL he just doest always play up to his talent. In all fairness he is new to the postion so that might play into the situation. I fully expected him to dominate at the East-West Shrine game but he didnt??? The coaching staff is going to have some work to do with this guy but he has the talent to get it done!

Soliai is a good pick. He had his weight down to 332 at his pro day. He's a very mobile guy who is difficult to move off the line because he is powerful. The one concern is that he had an elbow injury so he could not lift at his pro day.

Exactly what we need...

Just what we need....another project DT like Manny Wright or Kevin Vickerson or Rodrique Wright or Fred Evans. Great pick guys (sarcasm). Plus, don't we still have Traylor and Holliday?

Now in no way do I claim to be a draft expert but imo I think we've done very poorly so far.

1. Drafting Ginn at #9 is ridiculous: IMO he's not even the 2nd best WR in this draft and certainly not worthy of the #9 spot. I can understand not being in love with Quinn and passing but for a player who is currently injured, weighs only 175 lbs and would likely have been there 10 - 15 picks later??? If Ginn is who the staff wanted why not trade down 10 spots, pick up another selection or 2 and still get him? (I realize he is supposed to be a sick Return specialist as well but this is way too high to pick in what my opinion is a good to great return man who may help a little bit in the receiving game someday).

2. 1st 2nd rd pick on Beck: he is 26 and will likely be near 30 before he is ready to start for us (if ever?). He is 6 foot 2 and 210 lbs which is very small for an NFL QB. Personally, I don't like this pick very much at all. (I realize that Brees is a small QB and is one of the best but still, undersized QB's generally don't cut it in the bigs).

3. 2nd 2nd rd pick Samson Satele: An intriguing prospect who may develop given a couple of years. However, his work ethic is suspect and he has had next to no practice run blocking at Hawaii. IMO there were much better OL available than this pure pass blocker (who knows...maybe Cam is planning on changing our O to Coach June Jones' Hawaii style offense).

4. 3rd rd pick: Lorenzo Booker: So far, this is the only pick that I support although it to comes with its drawbacks. Seeing as we now have Ronnie Brown and Lorenzo Booker what does this do for our leverage in any Ricky Williams trade? I would have loved to seen Ricky come back for us (he did play very well last time) but it's unlikely to happen if he is reinstated by the league. And if he is, we will almost certainly try to trade him although like I said we will have zero leverage now and may have to cut him rather than get compensation. Not to be entirely negative however, I think Booker and Brown could form (with some help from our poor performing O-line) one hell of a tandem.

5. 4th rd pick DT Paul Soliai: like I said earlier, in case we didn't have enough DT's (Vickerson, Wright, Wright, Evans, Traylor, Holliday) we picked up a guy that I am not really fond of. This pick could have been MUCH better used on either a LB or DB. Furthermore, if we really thought that we needed a 6th or 7th DT why not go for a gamble like Marcus Thomas who has (imo) a lot more talent that Soliai? (I suppose character issues prevented this which really might not be that bad).

Sorry for the rant and I'm sure I'm in the minority here but we could have had (imo) a much better looking draft if we would have taken:

1st: Brady Quinn
2nd: DB Chris Houston (or WR's Dwayne Jarret or Steve Smith)
2nd: DE/LB Quentin Moses (or LB Buster Davis or WR Jason Hill)
3rd: Lorenzo Booker (happy with pick...just not happy with what it probably means for Ricky)
4th: LB Zac DeOssie or DT Marcus Thomas

Any thoughts besides I'm a raving lunatic?

Only thought I'd have is me saying that if you had VIP membership access then you could read information about this draft from people who actually know what they're talking about.

Actual analysis about the guys we've chosen as opposed to your wet dream fantasies about all the big name players like Quinn, Jarrett, etc...

There's always going to be dudes like you who hate the draft picks the team chooses. I'm used to it by now

Soliai is a pure NT prospect . . . something we actually do not have on this team, even with all of our young DTs. The guy is 344 lbs and could be our plug in the middle for a while. I like this pick. No offense to the guy, but Traylor is lucky to make it through each new season. Sooner later, guys his size just start to wear down. I think it was a good decision to snag a guy who can likely share snaps at NT this season and takes some of the pressure off of our other young guys who were going to have a hard time filling Keith's shoes.

My first thought was that this thread belongs in the Draft forum and in the thread is already there.
