Excellent. That's $2000+ worth of stone crabs retail in Atlanta now a days. Ridiculous price although I might have to bit the bullet and get a few lb's for new years.

I've only caught a couple lanes and they were hanging out in a large school of muttons. Thought they were yellowtail at first but the black dot gave them away.

Good to hear from you guy. Hope all is well and you enjoy the holidays.

God I love Stone Crab claws. before I moved to Ga, I had 3 traps. Rec fisherman can have 5 total in FL. I used to drop them in places in the bay with some good structure. I would just put a fish carcass in there for bait after I filleted it. I used to take a kayak out and check traps. I would get a dozen or so nice claws every 4 or 5 days from a kayak. Man I miss stone crab claws, my mouth is watering right now.

Edit: In response to yellowtails- I love grilling a whole fish after gutting and scaling. Score the sides hit with some Italian dressing and seasoning. Or some lemon on side Very good.

Do you know of any cheaper place to get stoners in Atlanta other than the Atl fish market ?

Sounds like I need to use you as a middleman and sell them in ATL . I only get $10/lb and Im fortunate to have a connection to get that. Most large buyers here pay 8. The moneys in the lobster, but its still nice to get a few easy dollars on the side. I call them "beer money"

Yea this time of year it's sailfish and kings mostly. Beginning of May the big Tarpon show up under all the bridges. Some great memories fighting big tarpon around the 7 mile bridge at the end of Marathon.
Live mullet on a float or balloon and it's on :hump:
We did always catch a load of mangrove and mutton snappers under that bridge in the middle of marathon. Cooler of beer and rock music blasting we fished there until the sun came up on chilly nights in the winter.
I remember watching haley's comet there one night. I think it was in the 80's. You could barely see it in the city but there at night it was bright in the sky. I know I've told that story before. Good times.

Lane snappers, mangrove snappers, and groupers from 2 weeks ago out of Sarasota.
I made some great sushi rolls with some lane snapper, and grilled a big fillet of grouper!

    Man...that is a nice fish.

Every Thanksgiving I come home to Orlando for the holiday and my brother and I have a tradition of going out to mosquito lagoon and fishing for redfish. I've caught a bunch, but nothing that big. Congratulations to you neighbor.

I drive past there a couple times a month to take the wife to Dover. She has a gambling problem. Do any clamming out there?

Blue crab...8 oz weight. They''ll be stacked up here for the next month or so. Probably could have caught a few more but I ran out of bait. Had to call all over town to get 3 blue crab this morning.

Wow, that looked like a red but I see the darker scales now that you told me what it is. Are they much different other than the color of their scales? I just noticed that there is no spot on the tail area either. Tricky fish! Glad to see you getting the kids involved early, that's outstanding!

Honestly deep sea fishing isnt my favorite, but when youre getting hits THAT often its fun. we lost about 7 or 8 on top of the 10 we caught. One was a real soul crusher...had him in the boat basically and our small boat bit us...guy got backed into the console and stumbled and lost the gaff.

First time Ive been deep sea fishing in a good bit.

Sounds like a blast. We use to fish the weedlines in a relatively small boat as well. Really gets hectic when you are in a school and holding your reel in one hand while trying to gaff your buddies fish with the other.
Nothing like fresh dolphin right out of the water. Haven't had that in years. The **** they pass as fresh here is barely eatable.

    Speaking of fresh fish...

I was just in Nassau like 2 weeks ago(travelling through on my way to the states) and stayed in a hotel there overnight. Had a nice little restaurant and bar in it. We are hungry so we just walk right there and order food. I got grouper fingers. They tasted perfectly fine and I didnt complain, but I knew it wasnt grouper. I asked the waiter what kind of fish it was and he says its grouper. I tell him I know better and it kinda caught him off guard at first, then he looks around, looks back and me and goes "yeah. Its talapia."

They have that crap fish in all the stores here. Taste nothing like grouper. More like a grunt.

The good news is Hooters sells an excellent fried grouper sandwich with onions and melted cheese

Dolphin nuggets are another way to go. Chop up the fillets into 3 in chunks. Coat with flour , egg and bread crumb and deep fry. Outstanding when you get tired of the baked stuff. Heck i'd chop up some lobster tails and toss them in as well and it's on.

Here's the boat we used most of the time. I think it was a 26 ft open fisherman.

The bar I work at has an appetizer called fish bites. It's fries wahoo done pretty much that way. Good stuff.

Nice dolphin BTW. Well either that or you're really short...

    :sidelol:

    I'm 6 ' for a reference point :)

The boat was not big and usually we had 4 or five lines out at once with the outriggers and sometime a down rigger. The point being in a large school of dolphin frantic is a good description of what's going on to make your earlier point.
