Author's conclusion - "TL;DR I wasted my time today, the preseason doesn't matter, but teams should try to win at least one preseason game to block bad juju."
 
The outcome of the games is not important but evaluating the middle and back end of your roster is important.

With the advent of the joint practices perhaps less so, but it still helps you get a handle on what your depth looks like and seeing rookies out there can be useful as well.

If the not rich enough yet NFL owners did not make money off the games I think they would be gone.
