Prisco's Top 100 players: Ranking all 32 NFL starting quarterbacks

Nah. Just highly overrated on this board.

I'll let it play out. But for his salary, his experience and the coach he has (along with the talent around him), it is no Excuseville now

Here's the thing...

He's already been a top 15 QB, so he has already shown he should be a starter in the NFL...this notion of "top 10 or still be worried" is so far from a reality that is should not be said. Out side of your top five guys...the movement of "qb ranking" varies from year to year. Rarely is any QB consistent enough (outside of those top 5) to be in the top 10 year after year. Flacco, Ryan, E. Manning...all range from as high as 6 to as low as 20 depending to the past season.

I swear...it is as if no one watches anything but the Dolphins.

Meh, there's a lot of personal bias in these rankings. I really like Pete Prisco, but remember, he gave the Jets an A+ for drafting the Penn State QB Hackenberg this year ... so he has his preferences with QB's. Not everyone shares them.

If Gase and Joseph turn things around and we win 10 games then Tannehill vaults into the top 10 QB's even with a year of career averages for him. I'm guessing Tannehill improves just like every other QB under Gase, and the Dolphins offense rebounds like every other offense under Gase, and the Dolphins defense rebounds just like every defensive unit under Joseph. If those things happen, we have a winning record, possibly make the playoffs, and everyone's tune changes.

Russell Wilson should be ranked ahead of Luck, Palmer, and Brees. And, since Prisco appears to be taking the long view, he should be ahead of Newton, as well. In other words, you can't rank Luck ahead of Wilson despite 2015 and rank Newton ahead of Wilson because of 2015.

What has Osweiller done to rank ahead of Tyrod Taylor? 13-24 is a cluster, but seeing Dalton as the top QB in that group is pretty funny. 32 out of 32 NFL GM's would take Winston over Dalton.

15 is where I rank him year in and year out.

I'll let it play out. But for his salary, his experience and the coach he has (along with the talent around him), it is no Excuseville now

Agreed....I will give him some time to adjust to the new system but if he does not have a pretty damn good second half of the season my patience will have worn thin.

I look at it this way, we've had a blip here and there, like the year we won the AFC East under Sparano (when Brady was out), but we haven't had good QB play since Marino. IMHO, Tannehill is a cut above all of the other journeymen and pretenders we've trotted out since the great Dan Marino retired. Is he elite? Will he become elite? Does being the most sacked QB in the league over the last 4 years hold a QB back? (We know it holds Brady and the great ones back, but what about guys not at the top like Tannehill?) Does adding talent along the OL help? If it did not matter, we should see no significant change by adding Tunsil. But, if the OL does matter, and hopefully it does, we should see improvement.

Regardless, I watch the games analytically and I understand football, and I'm already convinced that we found our QB and that he is the best one we've had since Marino. Does that make him Aaron Rodgers? No. But I'm happy to have him and excited to see what Tannehill, Ajayi, Parker, Landry, Cameron et. al. can do with a top offensive guy running the show and one of our two gaping guard holes filled. I can't wait for the season to begin.

he needs to be top 10 for us to feel positive about keeping him long term

Ok then, when he is top 10 this year are you going to man up and admit that you have been wrong about him? Or will you come up with 45 excuses that downplay his talent?

If this line stays healthy I will bet anyone here real dollars that he is top 10. This kids decision making is legit, and he has the arm to go along with it. A luxury this team hasn't had since 99'

That's a bit low considering PFF ranked him at #19 and above the likes of Eli, Luck and Flacco. However, after last season, that range is understandable. Had they ranked him that low coming off the '14 season where PFF had him at 11, this ranking would be really unrealistic.

I agree, but if he is ranking him that low because of last year, then I believe with the type of season Luck had, and still ranking him top 10 shows a huge amount of inconsistency by Pete.

I have huge hope that Gase will put Tannehill in much better situations to succeed this coming year, so hopefully this will be the last year that we are wondering how good Tannehill is, or can be.

If he becomes top 10 I will man up and admit I've been a dumb ass. You said you will bet anyone he will be top 10 this year? I'll take that bet!

get ready to pay up. he's already been there.
Tom Brady, Patriots (83.7)

Brady was our highest-graded quarterback in the NFL from Weeks 5 to 13 last season, recovering from a shaky start (which included a really poor performance against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4) to have another stellar season. One cause for concern would be how we performed from Week 13 through the Super Bowl, but despite being very average for that stretch, he is still one of the best quarterbacks in the league.
7.Tony Romo, Cowboys (83.3)

Often criticized for the Cowboys’ lack of postseason success, Romo is actually one of the best QBs in the league on a yearly basis. It’s hard to imagine where the Cowboys would be without him, and he was particularly effective in 2014. No QB in the league had more touchdown throws on deep passes.
8.Matt Ryan, Falcons (83.0)

Another quarterback who seems to take an unnecessary amount of blame for his team’s lack of postseason success, Ryan is a top-10 NFL QB. He has benefited from having weapons like Julio Jones, Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez around him during his time in Atlanta, but Ryan consistently performs well. He handled pressure well again in 2014, too, with an accuracy percentage of 69.4 percent on plays during which he was under pressure.
9.Russell Wilson, Seahawks (82.1)

Wilson wasn’t a particularly good passer in 2014, ranking just 19th in passing grade. He made up for that with the second-highest rushing grade among quarterbacks, but his place in the top 10 is more than anything based off of his tremendous 2013 season. That’s when he had the eighth-highest passing grade, and again the second-highest rushing grade, while leading the league with an accuracy percentage of 48.3 percent on passes travelling 20 yards or more downfield.
10.Ryan Tannehill, Dolphins (80.2)

Is he among the best five quarterbacks in the league yet? No, but Ryan Tannehill has quietly put himself in the top 10 with his play over the past two seasons. He was the sixth-most accurate QB in the league last year. Our sixth-highest graded passer in 2013, he dropped slightly to 10th this past season, but looks poised for a big year with the Dolphins and an improved supporting cast.

Gordon has worked at PFF since 2011, and now heads up the company’s special teams analysis processes. His work in-season focuses on college football, while he is also heavily involved in PFF’s NFL draft coverage.

Double standard is the term you are looking for and it is rampant in the QB debate

Total click bait in a slow time. But I still looked at it.

There are a number of people ranked above Tannehill that I absolutely would not trade Tannehill for. It depends on how you want to look at it.

Either Tannehill will thrive this year without excuses, which will validate the defenders pointing out he did what he could with crumbling play around him, or he will struggle which will validate the attackers who think Tannehill is the problem.

Some group is going to have egg on their face after this season

What if he has another average year? Which side wins then?
