question about madison and the cap

i konw i know, we cant cut him big hit in the cap... BUT, i thought if you traded a player the other team absorbes the full contract including potential cap hits if hes cut or something... why can we not trade him? i thought trading him we just give off his salary to the other tea mand thats it, why would we take a hit for a player that we dont cut, but rather trade?

In Madison's case, he has 3 yrs left and $7,322,576 of signing bonus amortization ($2,912,931 in 2005 & 2006 and $1,496,714 in 2007). Trade accelerates all that on Miami's 2005 cap. With his 2005 cap number $6,332,931, a trade adds $989,645 to the 2005 cap. Not as restrictive as one would think. He's a possibility for trade, but I would think that Surtain would yield more in a trade

This is why the Fins should be careful and really consider if it's wise to give him another market value contract. IMHO, Miami should trade him and work with Madison, Howard, and Poole in 2005. They could add another young CB in the draft

A $7.323 million charge to Team Salary for a non existent player is about as restrictive as it gets. The Franchise tag for a CB in 2004 was $6.801 million.
