The Saints want a “significant return” for receiver Brandin Cooks. The last pick in round one apparently isn’t significant enough.
Josh Katzenstein of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that the Patriots have offered the 32nd selection for Cooks, and that the Saints declined. It’s unclear whether the Patriots offered more picks or whether the Saints have countered.
The Eagles and Titans also were reportedly interested in Cooks. They hold picks No. 14 and 18, respectively, in round one. Coincidentally, Cooks is now represented by Bruce and Ryan Tollner. They also represent Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz and Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota.
Cooks, a first-round pick in 2014, has one year left on his rookie deal along with the fifth-year option, which must be exercised by May 3. Reports that Cooks is frustrated in the New Orleans offense surfaced in December.

The Saints are crazy then. If you wanna trade the guy. That's the best you can hope for

Silly Pats, didn't somebody tell them that speed WRs are overrated?

It started with the Patriots offering a first-round pick to the Saints for receiver Brandin Cooks. It’s ending with the pot being sweetened a bit more and a deal being done.

PFT has confirmed that the Cooks, a first-round pick in 2014, will be traded to the Patriots. The deal was first reported by Diana Russini of ESPN.

The deal consists of the 32nd overall pick going to the Saints, along with a third-round pick in exchange for Cooks and the Saints’ fourth-round pick.

Well ****.

This is so ****ed. Cooks is a perfect Brady-type receiver. This is NOT good for the AFC east. Someone in that offense is always going to be open, and Brady is going to find him.

How the **** do you stop that?

this is just all the more disconcerting :(

It's like somebody over there has done this kind of thing before. :idk:

Here's the thing though, Cooks can be the best WR ever created and still not perform with Brady.

There's plenty of WRs who just could never get on the same page as Brady and were phased out.

I mean it should be great, I'm hoping it's great, but there are no guarantees. Seems like a risk worth taking though.

Patriots got WR Brandin Cooks, TE Dwayne Allen, and DT Kony Ealy for just $7.47M in 2017.

Damn.

Damn.

Well, two of those players are on rookie contracts and in the last year of their deal...they will need to be signed or they are one year rentals. Saints did the same with Still and Us, except we got him for two years.

Not quite.

Kony Ealy is in the last year of his rookie contract, but Allen has 3yrs left at 17.5M ttl, and Pats have a 2nd year option in 2018 for Cooks for about 8M
