The Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans have reached an "impasse" with free agent Jared Cook over their franchise-tag dispute, and it's "safe to say" they will not reach a long-term deal on Monday.

That means Cook will hit the open market. The fact that the Titans aren't willing to tag Cook as a tight end suggests they believe Cook would have won the argument that he should be considered a receiver. That would have far-reaching implications for future free agent tight ends. Watching Cook walk would be bad news for a team that needs to surround Jake Locker with as much talent as possible, but a potential boon for Cook's fantasy value. He's been criminally underused throughout his four years in Tennessee.

I say dedicate all of our efforts in bringing him in! Wow!

I want Cook and I want to draft Ertz/Eifert too. Fasano can go block for what ever team Sparano coaches.

I read some media fodder today that Fasano most likely wont be resigned. I like Ertz because he is the total package.

What sort of a contract does everyone think he'd receive?

Keller is another guy I really like byt you have to have Ertz. This young man has the potential to make a huge impact immediately.

Don't see it happening bc he will want WR money not TE money because that's what he wanted on his tag which fits because of his role mainly being as a slot receiver. I'd take Austin over him if he's our slot.

And who blocks in that group? Remember half of a tight ends job is to block. Cook has become a better blocker during his career, but compared to most he's below par.

Miami once had a MLS team and it failed, what makes things different this time around?

Jason La Canfora@JasonLaCanforawith Jared Cook hitting free agency, look for the Rams (with former Titans coach Jeff Fisher) to pursue strongly

I mean lets not kid ourselves, players are going to go after a payday . . . and if he can get WR money, he surely isn't going to decline it. I think people are confusing brilliance from his agent and himself with him being "greedy". Truth is, they got rid of his TE coach, who Cook felt was helping him improve in blocking . . . and combined with the fact that the Titans under use him . . . I seriously doubts he wants to be in Tennessee. That said, if Tennessee offers him a big payday he'll deal with it . . . but he won out big time as now he can pick what team he wants to go to now and go after longer security rather than a one year franchise deal.

he's a te...trying to get wr franchise loot cause it's a few mil more is no big deal...til they say no and you hold them to the fire over it...

as for cook and st lous i can see that...the te from wisconsin they drafted a couple years ago has done nothing but underwhelm...

    I'm down for it.

One of the big things I took from that article was that they mentioned he was criminally underused in his career there. I remember someone on here saying a similar thing. Despite the low production, he has ability to make big-time plays. He and Fasano would be a fantastic duo. Keep Clay as the 3rd guy/H-back/backup FB, cut every other TE, and maybe draft someone new round 4 or beyond

i'd be interested as a flex guy and seam player at the right rate...but i doubt he gets inked for less than $7 mil per...and i think it may be a $8 mil per number...and i can't get down with that for him...i'd give jermichael finley $12 mil over 2 years any day instead...

i think people have to understand in this offensive system you better be smart on the field...maybe cook is...i'm not sure i see it that way but him as a fit in this o seems like a projection to me...does he read coverage well does he sit down and find voids in zone??? maybe...but i know jermichael finley fits this o...we don't need a 1000 yards from the te position either...but we need consistency...finley gets open he just has at times suspect hands...still teams are scared of him when he's on the field...i say buy low on finley and make him a more important part of the o here than he was recently in green bay

Cook would be huge (literally) to this offense. If we invest that type of FA money in TE, we cant draft one as high as the 2nd round, we need to go after other positions. I dont want any of Ertz and his stubby arms anyway (31 3/4"). Cook by the way, 35 3/4"!!! 10 1/4" hands. Cooks also 0.27 seconds faster in the 40. Thats a pretty huge margin.

Now if you want to try to swing a Cook + Eifert (maybe trade 2+3 to get into the 20's) and try to build some innovative offense based around having dominant TE's (like NE) and mismatches, then im listening. its difficult for me to get past Ertz's combine numbers.

If memory serves correct Cook was having some trouble with TEN coaching staff last season -> so maybe he prefers a fresh start
