I don't think he deserves that much money, he is a number 2 CB, and he wants to be paid as a number 1
Thank you sweet baby Jesus. Smith is garbage and can't cover any wr running a 40 faster than 5.1.
he is a # 2 comer with potential #1 attributes, if dolphins let him go we will regret it, he was turning into a shut down for us, we just never really had the right defense for him, we need a top notch free safty. Thats our problem, not sean smith
Good. That guy couldnt cover himself with a blanket if he got cold at nite
I don't think it's a hard decision to make. Smith had an up and down season. He's a quality #2 CB but he's looking for #1 money. Give Ireland credit for not throwing money away. The big question is what's the plan for the CB's going forward.
Shouldnt you be training or something Sean?
Good glad to hear that!
I don't think anyone really thought we'd tag Sean. Just not worth it.
I don't think we tag anyone.
nobody knows nothing right now.....i hate media reports around this time of year.
he coulda been great, but he never proved it. how with those long arms do you not use them at the LOS to at least knock a step off a guy?
Its cus he is more lazy than fight. you either have it or you dont. Now, he started moving in that direction early, then faded. been four years now.
Some people here legitimately thought he was worthy. They like to think these things so that if Ireland does tag him they can defend him.
Thank god he's not getting tagged. Now I'm waiting for the report that Long won't be tag and I might actually think Ireland has some intelligence.
here's an interesting one...... how about Randy... not pitching we use our tag this year but I would think he would be the ideal target
He would have to be worth something to the franchise to receive the tag
Says the guy with Sean Smith as his name...
I think Sean is an above average corner, and I've defended him like he'll, but he went on a downward slide during his contract year. Scared to think how he'll play once he gets big $
Good move by Ireland. I would be fine having Smith back, but the money he wants his pretty ludicris. If his price comes down we can talk, if not then its time to draft a corner and maybe sign a guy like Greg toliver or Chris Houston. Are we planning on keeping Patterson? he could be an option as well.
the only option Patterson is to overpay a below average corner
Yes!! Now we can start looking for a corner, that can cover and catch the ball.
I would settle for a corner that could cover lol
This is one of those situations where I would trust the organization. They see him everyday and know what he is. Some team will overpay for hype, let them.
So you think a #2 corner with 4-5 ints in 4 years is worth #1 money. Thank god you have nothing to do with the dolphins FO
Is Armando just speculating or has it been accidentally or deliberately leaked by someone within the organization? For Armando to be so certain that Smith won't be tagged, it sounds like he has been told. If accidentally leaked, then we have a problem that someone can't keep his/her mouth shut re confidential information.
most likely, Ireland is using Armando to convey a message to Smith and his Agent.
I hope Sean Smith stays in the AFC....or better yet in the AFC East with someone other than the Dolphins. Since Miami will know all of his weaknesses include everything a CB is supposed to be good at.
Not a good use of money
So glad he didn't get tagged. Over rates. Started to show some promise then **** on himself.
You got it mixed up lol. Vontae was our future shut down corner. He is the guy we will regret losing.
Sean Smith is a chump. The guy has done absolutely jack **** for us. Wr's run circles around his scrub ***. I have only seen him drop interceptions. Point blank ones. Over and over.
I will not have any good memories of this guy's tenure here. We gave him time, just let the scrub walk now.
No, no he really really wasn't. He is not, nor will he ever be confused with a "shut down" corner. Shut down corners are extremely rare, so in the absence of that rare talent corners need to be able to consistently make tackles, something Smith has shown either an inability or an unwillingness to do.

I would be mad if we kept Sean Smith let alone use the franchise tag to do so.
How's he turning into a #1 corner? he can't tackle and he can't defend, the object of playing CB is to make plays as it happens with aggressiveness and try to intercept balls with instinct, he make plays after the receiver has caught the ball, and wants more money because when the fins sent Vontae packing Smith figured he would try to cash in not on ability but longevity with the team, SEE YA SMITH ON YOU NEW TEAM.

It ain't smith I can tell you that much.
Wow....why does NFL.com even use Armando Selguero as a source? Armando first tells everyone that Miami is considering using the tag on Sean Smith a few weeks ago, and then everyone gets angry. Now Armando breaks the news that Miami wont use the tag on Sean Smith, and everyone is relieved. My guess is that Armando never even had a story, and there was never any consideration by Miami to tag Smith.
Now he can say "I told you so" either way.
That's about right. Just sign competent corners...don't have to be elite. Upgrade Clemons at FS and we'll be fine. Whether through free agency (Anthony Spencer, Micheal Johnson) or draft, or both.. upgrade the d-line so that our beasts in the trenches can get constant pressure and we'll be fine.
