Ted Ginn Jr.

Again, you haven't done your research. I left a link earlier in this thread where you can actually watch how he was injured when a player from his own team slipped and cut him down...but, you obviously don't care about facts.

obviously you havent done your "research" either b/c if you did you would not be arguing with me about drafting Ted Ginn jr.

I keep hearing all this talk about how slow Jarrett is, but at the same time the same people mention that CBs played him 10 yds off the ball!! EXPLANATION PLEASE!!!

Jarrett is only slow when compared to Ginn. For someone who is supposed to be slow he sure caught a lot of passes for a lot of yards and a lot of touchdowns going against good to very good DBs. I guess his route running is EXCELLENT, for him to gain over 200 yards against a consistently top rated college football team who recruits with the best of the best.

Whoever drafts Jarrett is going to probably get the steal of the draft!! Like one poster noted, there are more slow footed to average (4.5-4.7) WRs in the HALL OF FAME than they are speedsters.

CONCLUSION: Although we all love speed, it takes a lot more than speed to prosper in the NFL. FOOTBALL SMARTS, DETERMINATION, HARD WORK, DESIRE TO BE THE BEST, A GOOD QB, A GOOD OL, AND A GOOD CREATIVE OFFENSIVE SYSTEM HAVE BEEN MORE IMPORTANT TO A WR's SUCCESS IN THE NFL MORE SO THAN HIS 40 TIME!!!!!!!

The only real knock I've heard about Jarrett is regarding "seperation" (aka speed). If he get's into the late 1st round or the 2nd round, I think we should trade up to get him!!!

Why did CB's play 10 yards off him? I have no idea. Alas, I'm not a Pac 10 defensive co-ordinator. But it's what happened. He was able to dominate smaller corners. It's not a secret. He isn't strong at the LOS against tough press and I'm not sold on his rather lacsidaisical work habits.

Jarrett is "only slow when compared to Ginn"??

Really? Ted Ginn is a 4.29 forty runner. Jarrett's two 40's at the Arizona pre-combine camp were 4.68 and 4.71. Which is slower than every DB at the Combine apart from JD Nelson, (Pac 10), Daymeion Hughes, (Pac 10) and Leonard Peters, than every WR, than Antwan Barnes, Quincy Black, Buster Davis, Zak DeOssie, Justin Durant, David Harris, Rory Johnson, Chad Nkang, Paul Posluszny, Dallas Sartz, Tim Shaw, Brandon Siler, Juwan Simpson, Lawrence Timmons and Patrick Willis. All LB's. And as fast as Gaines Adams, CJ Ah You, Tim Crowder, Bryan Robison, etc. all defensive ends.

I guess as long as if hes fast, thats all that matters?

you just forgot the most important part....he has to be able to catch the ball!

its crazy I know, but he does have to catch the ball.

Maybe Troy Williamson can teach him how to catch or better yet... "Rocket" Ismail
You're right, he can't catch.

But then 125 catches in 31 games, and 8 picks as a HS senior CB would say you're wrong.

"His rare, game-breaking speed makes him as intriguing as any player in the draft. It could be enough for Ginn to be a top-10 choice because of his ability to contribute immediately as a return man. Teams easily could picture him becoming the 2007 version of Devin Hester, the former University of Miami star who set a record with six touchdown returns as a rookie for the Chicago Bears and became the first player in Super Bowl history to return the opening kickoff for a score. Ginn, an underclassman, has the physical tools to be an outstanding receiver, but needs to work on ball security."

What would Vic Carruci know?

"Ted Ginn Jr. will have an impact as wide receiver and punt/kick return specialist, an all-around weapon that in this draft is most assuredly a top ten talent and should be an excellent selection with one of the top ten picks at the 2007 NFL Draft."

What would TSN know?

et cetera.

This may be true but didn't Randy Mueller himself say that we need to add speed to the receiving corp?

When your WR corp only have 31 explosive plays (plays of 20+ yards) in 16 games, you need to upgrade that unit with some speed in a hurry.

Note: Reggie Brown of Philadelphia had 21 explosive plays by himself last year.

Meachem is 6'2" 214 and runs a 4.39....Jason Hill ran a 4.32 isn't that fast enough....and you don't have to use the 9th pick for them.

It's a pretty obvious case. Jarrett rarely played press and when he did - Chris Houston - he was held totally in check and became a non factor. Jarrett often played corners that played 10 yards and more off, allowing him a cushion and then he would run past them as they turned or caught the ball in front of them. His pedestrian footspeed means that he can't get off man. The Hall play, was more a fault of the safety, than anything to do with Leon Hall.

And I'm not talking about deep seperation, I'm talking about getting half a yard here and there.

Marty Booker is more than happy to work the middle of the field, and actually a lot of Ginn's work came over the middle on slants, drag in's, digs, etc.

the hall play was all hall. i was under the same impression until the seen the play again. Hall never once showed he was playing anything but man. he turned and ran with Jarrett and he flat out got outran. and lets just say he doesnt get much separation. what does that say about his hands? 216 catches in 3 years compared to 135 in 3 years for Ginn. i realize Jarretts QB situation was much better. but for a guy that cant get any separation, he sure does get alot of balls his way even with other good WRs on the team.

While Ginn is certainly explosive, he is viewed as more of a return threat who can help as a receiver rather than a receiver who can help as a returner due to his less than reliable route running and hands. Ginn is viewed by some as luxury pick, and with few holes the Chargers are in position to add just such a player.

Agree to disagree

you may feel he should be a 10 top pick, but I can asure you that you are in the minority on that one

I think they are more than fast enough and I wouldn't mind having either of them. I was simply replying to the poster's comment that the Dolphins have bigger needs than a "speedy" receiver.

The one thing Ginn, Jr has over both Meachem and Hill is his versatility. His ability to not only return kicks but also his ability line up in multiple positions on the field which could cause matchup problems for defenses. As it has been noted several times, he could be the x-factor our offense has been missing for a long time.

Tell me how many drops Ginn has? His speed is unmatched. He can play WR, CB and KR/PR

The guy is a elite player.

And he could be a dud....ya never know. I rather trade back and take either Meachem or Hill and say thank you.
