so we'll know this afternoon which players we picked up. There were quite a few guys that could definitely improve this team, so I'm hoping that Nick took advantage of our great waiver priority this year.

Along w/ some help at DB, DL, and OL, I hope we take a good look at Teyo Johnson. I don't think he's much of a blocker but he can catch passes.

I would love it if he replaced Holmes whom I think is only around by default.

Just wait, I have a feeling we are going to claim a few players today. I just have the feeling Saban does not like his team depth right now.

that my friend is VERY obvious. He said in the Florida Today article on Saturday that the roster today is not necessarily what it'll be like tommorow.

Plus, on numerous occasions, he's said that there were quite a few guys that werent buying into the philosophy that they were trying to teach, and that he was very concerned by depth.

With such a great waiver priority, I could easily see 5 or 6 new guys on theteam today. Not starters right away, but in time, absolutely

I'm thinking you may be right and I expect a couple of moves to be made today. Nothing can happen until 12PM at the earliest, I can't wait.

claims can be made till noon today, after that, everybody is a FA.

its easier however to claim guys, especially because you'll know you're guaranteed to get them

LOTS of guys from this years draft that were highly regarded going in, even by many guys on this board.. If Saban liked any of them, they'll be here.

Its a shame that it wasnt a great year for CBs that are cut..

I disagree... Holmes is around for his blocking.

If we were able to get Teyo Johnson then I think it would be Diamond that got cut. There was a rumour that he was going to get cut, although it was probably just that, a rumour.

I still think Fred Gibson is going to a be a good player. He's 6'4, and has speed.

There were a lot of surprising cuts...

    Teyo Johnson, TE Raiders
    Vince Carter, C Raiders
    Antajj Hawthorne, DE Raiders
Hugh Douglass, DE/DT Eagles (I know he's old)
    Ernest Shazor, S Cardinals
    Anton Palapoi, DE Broncos
    Cletidus Hunt, DT Packers

This is what I saw glancing through the cut list. I know some of these guys are real reaches, but I swear most of them were talked about on this board at some time.

Teyo Johnson i think is a real quality Tight End, he'd be very good to get cheap. Much better than Donald Lee, very athletic, makes some great catches. I'd love to bring him in. I'm not sure how good a blocker he is though, but if he can block favorably i think he's a must pickup.

ernest shazor wasn't drafted. He's no more surprising then Kay jay harris getting cut.

I didn't say Shazor was drafted, but a lot of people wanted us to pick him up. It's funny how the three safety's discussed on this board during the draft, Rosegreen, shazor and bigby were all released after the preseason.

  21. Diamond has played very well this preseason, I hope we don't cut him.

I wonder who is salivating over our cuts and wondering if their team is going to make a move and get them.

    haven't we already cut Diamond?

  24. Do you have any idea when we will know if we claimed anyone?

  25. I don't think so. Why would we? He has played well in the preseason and was diving all over the field to make catches. I think that is a Nick Saban, type of player.

    prob 3-4 pm....

the deadline passed an hour ago, so the league office now has to sift through all the claims, and award them to the highest priority. The only team that can pick before us is San Fran, so if they pass, we have the pick of the litter.

BTW, just so some of you dont get confused, it DOES NOT work like fantasy sports. We keep the #2 claim spot for every player waived, its not like we pick a guy and go to the back of the line. We have second pick of any guy available.

This is why I believe its very important for Nick and Randy to take advantage of this spot now, because next year, we may not be in the same position.

yes........and thats what the Cards did last year....

the reason teams dont go crazy and claim 20 guys is because you have to cut somebody once you claim someone else.

That said, I wouldn't be suprised to see 5 or 6 new guys by days end

I'm not sure there is many players in the NFL that hasn't had a thread started about them on this board. Seems like anybody that sneezes gets a thread.

Any chance we will pick up any one worth getting excited about? These are players that other teams cut so they can't be that good if they couldn't hold a roster spot? It's like other teams getting excited to pick up Donald Lee, who we know was a headache this off season. Don't mean to stir up an argument, just wondering what everyone thinks.

Remember that vested veterans, such as Cletidus Hunt, do not go through the waivers process. They are cut, their contracts terminated, and are free to sign with any team. Even if we wanted Hunt, we would probably wait until week 2, b/c any vested veteran on an opening day roster is guaranteed his full season's salary, even if he is cut the next week.

Vince Carter and Anttaj Hawthorne getting cut is not a suprise. Vince Carter, quite simply, isn't an NFL player. Hawthorne, as I told you guys before and during the draft, has this problem where he only plays when he wants to. You don't waste a roster spot on guys like that, especially guys who obviously have a drug problem as well.

I sure hope you are right.I personally am able to put up with a learning curve to the new guy's as long as there is a upside to them.I guess we will all see soon what saban's got.
