Look at the talent he has assembled. This guy is rapidly making a name. I could see a team like New England swooping in and grabbing him. We need to extend his contract. His is our Scott Pioli!

I agree and its about time somebody said it, we need to lock him in long term asap before the Pats grab him to help rebuild the offense, Welker was bad enough, we cant afford to lose Jeff

i quite agree. Ireland has done an admirable job lately. found a franchise QB, brought in sme big names. we really have a talented roster up and down the depth chart now. can't risk losing the archtitect of that. btw while we're at it, extend Aponte, too. we're in great shape cap wise.

I think Aponte should be made CEO, she has good chemistry with Jeff... will help keep him if other teams are interested

Who is the highest paid GM in the league? He will probably demand a deal along those lines

We just finished playing against Chad Henne.

I think I'll leave it at there when it comes to Jeff Ireland.

Thank you OP for your thoughts and contributions. My thoughts, this thread is going to go down the rabbit hole fast! Let's all keep it clean and remember that regardless of what happened in the past he is working on getting us out of the mess left by Parcells (which he had a lot to do with). His actions facing adversity the last couple of years will make him very appealing to a lot of organizations. With last years draft and this off-season, he is quickly changing the way people of think of him around the league. Even when it was really bad and it looked like he was going to get fired along with Tony Sporano, he had executives around the league backing him. Now that he has made a complete 360' and members on this board are discussing of signing him long term it is time to recognize his efforts and give him stability everyone hopes for. I'm not sure I agree with making him the highest paid GM but the fact that he remained positive during the worst of times and backed it up with a great off-season on paper is commendable.

Don't get me wrong, I don't believe he is out of the woods 100% because we need to translate all those acquisitions into wins. The Washington Redskins proved year in and year out that winning the off-season doesn't mean squat. With that said, I can't wait for the regular season. Let's go Dolphins!!

at this point in time I would rather keep him and let him and Philbin have a 3 -4 year run to see if they can right the ship...It would seem that maybe Jeff and Bill p/Tony may have had different visions on personnel and his vision is more inline with Joe. Firing Jeff at this point could mean new coach... which could result in yet another purge of the roster.... and rebuilding yet again.

Not ready to crown him just yet. When we get some elite-to-good production from other draft picks besides Pouncey then he can get praise.

Over the past 24 months, Ireland has been damn near the best GM in the league, if not the very best.

    He has earned an extension.

Okay ive never hated or loved the guy. But can he get us to the playoffs first an let this team show that what his master plan work before u crown him. I agree he has made recent good moves but time will tell. Niners GM should be highest that team is stacked. My 2 cents.

The defense has the talent to be a top premiere defense in this league. Our offense really depends on Tannehill's progression. I think Ireland has done a great job and should be extended. I expect us to be a playoff team.

If (rather, when) we make the playoffs this year, Ross should show him the money. The Tuna/Sporano/Ireland dynamic just never seemed a good recipe, and it showed. He's done some nice things since.

I like what Ireland has done THIS YEAR, ON PAPER. So far he has been a part of below .500 teams. Our O-line, which we have spent considerable draft picks on is still a major concern. His picks in the second round have been horrific! The biggest moves he has made are in FA and a move up in the draft this year.

I will say that his approach seemed to change this year and we were more aggressive and smart with how we did it. As stated above, it looks good....but it is one off season we have yet to see the fruits from. We have seen what his past drafts and off seasons have done, and it hasn't been pretty.

I can't recall anyone else renting a plane to fly a fire their GM(Fire Irleland)sign around the city.

We need to get a few people together to go to the Miami Dolphins headquarters and start a "Extend Jeff Ireland" rally! Maybe rent a plane and have it fly a "Jeff Ireland is the best NFL GM" banner!

Think we need to extend his contract, to be honest I think part of it is finally having a coaching staff that have a notion about improving players e.g. Jake Long you could argue has got worse as Sparano and co got their hands on him, same with Henne and a few others. Philbin, Sherman and co are making Ireland look good, and vice versa.

I like what he did this offseason but do you really want to extend the GM of a team that has gone 7-9, 7-9, 6-10, 7-9 over the last 4 years under his stewardship?

Oh my gosh, this proves that most posters in this forum really dont know anything. Swayed by every wind that blows. One week hate him, next week beat the jags in preseason and love him cant do without him. He spends a lot of money thats not his to keep his job and we think he's a genius. Lets let the season at least play out and see if he really did right. As far as finding us a franchise qb, thats yet to be seen. I personally thought Henne and Pat White looked better this week.

Dolphins are 27-39 in his four years. Still don't know if the QB position is resolved. OL is still a question and this has been a main focus of his. Don't misunderstand me he has done some nice things but he has missed just as much.

Let's evaluate it at the end of the season.

4 losing seasons in a row hardly qualifies for an extension. The one thing that has always impressed me with Ireland is his eye for defensive line talent. It is by far his strongest asset and I always praised him for it, even through the "Fireland" times.

I don't quite see the "abundance of talent" though. He did draft a first round QB . . . definitely deserves props for that . . . but that QBs progression this year means more to Ireland than anything else that could be mentioned. The DBs and LBs will be interesting . . . I'm not as sold on them as many are, but I like what I've seen and heard between preseason and practice. The oline is still mehhhhh, the RBs are mediocre, the WR depth is still shaky IMO and we all hope the progression of these young TE's helps this offense improve.

Ireland has shown that he doesn't get bullied around when it comes to contracts, and has shown some foresight when it comes to must resigns (Wake/Jones . . . 2 very cap friendly deals I may add) and really set this team up solidly cap wise and draft pick wise (although when you trot out the WR group you trotted out there last year, there should be some benefit to that).

It's all wait and see at this point, Ross is sticking with him as his guy so now its up to the coaches and players to produce on the field with the talent he has brought in.

Opinions are wrong all the time.

All you need to do is look at the actual results. In the NFL this is pretty easy: check the scoreboard.

if the outcome of the super bowl was known, we would be talking about a fact. that doesn't mean that my opinion before the super bowl was actually played would be wrong since there would be no evidence either way.
