Thanks to those lousy Jets, we still have a heartbeat. Hey, I'll take it. Lets beat Buffalo at home and go up to New England with a chance...

Its a faint pulse but it's still a pulse. The football season is too short to moan and groan every week. Lets enjoy another week of meaningful football. I think Sexy Rexy would gladly trade places with us right about now.

im not riding my hopes high but you never know. we need to beat the bills on sunday and patriots will most likely sit out their starters since they couldnt clinch bye. if pitt loses and dolphins win out, fins get the #6 spot due to a tiebreaker

we have to win out beat buffalo and new england who just might sit the whole team in week 17...cincy to get beat by pittsburgh and baltimore and pitt to get beat by the browns in week 17 who already beat them this season.

I hate to say Junc was right, but he said the dolphins beating the Jets, was "Our Super Bowl"...

I will sleep fine tonight knowing the Jets were eliminated before us:lol:

so, what needs to happen for us to make the playoffs? We obviously need to win the last two games; but do the rest of the teams need to lose both of their games?

Very simple, we win out 2 games, Pittsburgh beats Cincy this week and then both Pittsburgh and Cincy need to lose their last game!

I dont have a problem with you thinking Miami wont make the play-offs, just that you wont give us 15 minutes to fantasize!~

I think that has to be a kick to the balls to the Jests fans, knowing that somehow the Dolphins still have a snowball's chance in hell, and they are eliminated.

    so.... you're saying there's a chance!?

doubt pitt will lose the last game of their season, but weirder things have happened. Either way, we have something to cheer about tonight (Jests blowing) and next weekend.

Pittsburgh has to beat Cinncy then lose to Cleveland at home. Cinncy loses to Pitt and Balt at home.
Not to mention we have to beat Buffalo and then at NE. Also newsflash NE will not be resting anybody since they will be playing for a first round bye
Denver is 11-3 NE 10-4 and Houston 12-2. Not to mention its not a lock we beat Buffalo since they beat us once already

So in 5 games, we need everything to go our way.

Assuming each game is a 50/50 trial, then mathematically, the chance that all 5 games go our way is 0.5^5, or 3.125%.

So we have a 3.125% of making the playoffs.

Jets also have to lose to Buffalo. So it has to go, Fins win out, Cincy loses out, Pit wins next week then loses and Jets lose to Buffalo

Jets don't have to beat Buffalo specifically. One more loss would put them at 6-9

The Jets had to win tonight. They are gone. History. And anything they do in the final two games has no effect on us whatsoever. Read it and weep Junc!

Let me reiterate. We win a tiebreaker if it is PIT vs CIN vs MIA - we do not if it is PIT vs CIN vs MIA vs NYJ - they're eliminated from contention, but if they go 8-8 we're eliminated.

This. If you ask 100 fans if we'll make the playoffs this year 100 will say no, but I'm sure there have been many teams that needed 2 or 3 other teams to lose in week 17 and it happened. Just nice to be alive.

Seriously we were pegged as a 3 win team. Now, after 14 games, we are 1 of 2 teams that have a shot. NO ONE expected that. Let's give props. I mean holy crap, really? That is far above anyone's expectations!

A Dade County circuit court judge has ruled that the win was indeed not pointless.

So basically, Phins need to win out. Jets need to lose to either Chargers, or Bills.

Week 16 - Steelers Beat Bengals
Week 17 - Cleveland Beat Steelers, Ravens Beat Bengals.

I think this is the longest we have lasted not being eliminated since 2008. It is very satisfying that the Jets were the 2nd team in the division but the first to be eliminated.. HAha

This is based off the ESPN NFL playoff machine, might be wrong. Maybe something to do with S.O.S. with Colts and Steelers?

No, actually they don't. Even if they finish 8-8 and we finish 8-8, we go on to the playoffs. They are mathematically eliminated.

If the Jets and Dolphins both finish at 8-8 the tiebreaker scenario goes as follows

Head to Head (push) each team won game
Divisonal record (push) If each team makes it to 8-8 then divsional record will be 3-3 for both
Record in common games. This is where we get eliminated. We won both of our un-common games against Oakland and Cincy (this actual come back to bite us) Jets lost to Pitt and still have to play S.D. (No way for us to win this tiebreaker if Jets haves same record as us)

---------- Post added at 10:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:10 AM ----------

Jets are eliminated but they can still eliminate us by finishing with 8-8 record.

I can see us winning out and Pitt beating Cincy then Cincy losing @ Ravens buttttttttttttt Clev going into Pitt and grabbing a win with them having a chance to go to playoffs is doubtful. You never know though!

    Anything can happen.

Personally I can see Pitt beating Cincy.

    Ravens beat Cincy.

    Cleveland beats Steelers.

And Jets will probably lose both against the Bills and Chargers.

Biggest obstacle IMO is the Pats game. Billicheat is not one to "rest" starters.

I would thank this post twice if I could.

No, our team doesn't have a good chance. But if we beat Buffalo AT HOME and the Steelers beat the Bengals next week, we will have a potentially meaningful game in week 17 against the Patriots. If you had told me we could have a meaningful week 17 before the season, I would have taken it.
