does anyone now what kind of cap shape we will be in if we cut seau, bowens, thompson, feidler, and trade surtain?

I do not have time right now.........I will answer this when I get back from the Bills game :D

Don't have time for details right now:

Release Seau: save $2,651,250 in 2005 and $4,848,750 million in 2006 with dead cap in 2005 of $697,500

Release Thompson: save $1.2 million with 2005 dead cap of $557,500

Release Fiedler: saves $5,430,417 in 2005 and $8,844,583 million in 2006 with 2005 dead cap of $2,689,176

Release T. Bowens: saves $180,000 in 2005, $2.91 million in 2006, and $3.16 million in 2007. 2005 dead cap is $2.73 million

Trade Surtain: saves $5.85 million salary but will count as 2005 dead cap of $2.53 million

Total 2005 cap savings for the above moves is: $15,311,667 with dead cap of $9,204,176

Total 2006 cap savings for the above moves is: $16,603,743

Total 2007 cap savings for the above moves is: $3,160,000

The above moves get ya to cap compliancy but more moves will be needed to sign FAs. One move is guaranteeing Chambers' $5 million roster which would then be amortized from 2005-2009 at $1 million/season, thus savings $4 million on 2005 cap.

what is dead cap? does this mean trading surtain will cost us to much?

"Dead cap" or "Dead money" is salary cap space used up on players no longer with the team. Mostly from signing bonus money paid to the player

Would we get any good cap relief if we release Mare and Knight too? I'm hoping we have money to spend this offseason!

Knight is a FA after the season. Releasing Mare results in no cap savings if it's before June 1st. I'll post numbers shortly

Mare's cap number in 05 is $2,117,499. His remaining bonus amortization is $3,135,997. Thus, if released before June 1st , 2005, it would result in an additional cap charge of $3,135,997 - $2,117,499 = $1,018,498. If released after June 1st, His cap savings would be $1.05 million (his salary for 05).

I believe Miami will bring in real competition and make a determination during training camp.

Hey Clumpy do you think it's possible or wise for us to sign a top 5 pick(QB) in the 05' draft with our cap issues. I see your the man to talk numbers with. If you got time thanks.BTW Buffalo still sucks! Yes I do relize I just lowered my chances of getting an answer.:D

Miami cap issues are not as bad as in recent yrs IMO.

From a purely cap perspective, YES...Miami can sign a high draft choice that is a QB. From a talent perspective, Miami may want to go in a different direction. IMHO: Miami should trade down and add a few extra picks and begin the rebuilding process.

I agree about the trading down for more picks,I posted that in another thread. I was just wondering about or cap room for the possiblity of signing a high draft pick.I think we need O and D linemen first anyways. Thanks Clumpy.
