1. Louis Oliver
2. Keith Byars
3. Randy McMichael
4. Jim Kiick
5. Daryl Gardner
see i'd put McMichael in the overrated list.
Kiick and Oliver are good ones
I agree. McMicheal was overrated on our team, but I'm not saying he wasn't good. Louis Oliver and Kiick are a great ones. Daryl Gardner wasn't underrated, teams schemed against him, they wouldn't even run at him most of the time.
My Five are:
Just missed the cut: Jim Kiick, Jimmy Cefalo, and The Blackwood Brothers
You nailed it on Mcmicheal and Gardner! And I like Foley and Betters in my top five also. I would probably throw in Kick as #1 and Duriel Harris and I actually think Tony Nathan was very underated for what he brought to the table for us! And Don Strock just missed for me not just for what he brought on the field, but also on the sidelines.
Langer, Evans, Scott, Fernandez, Stanfil.
O.J. McDuffie, Orande Gadsden, DG, Brock Marion, Trace Armstrong.
mcknight. feeley gadsen gardner armstrong
I agree with most the ones you guys are putting out there.. i just wanna add one.. Terrell Buckley.. oh yea, one more Wes Welker...
Totally agree with McMichael as being overrated! Sadly he never came
close to living up to his potentual.
Tell me, why is it that when most Phin fanz think TE they think of
IMO Bruce Hardy is way underrated. He was mabey just are best blocking
TE ever and still holds the td record for a Miami TE with 18! Correct me if Im
wrong but didn't McMichael's finish with just 9?
I may be a little bias, but you have to admit, you very rarley hear his name
on this forum and he had some huge games for Shula's dolphins...
PS... McKnight was AWEFUL... dropped way too many passes. Ok, not aweful, but he definately wasnt underrated... Gadsden however was a Stud.
Miami has had a lot of solid TEs. Keith Jackson is my personal favorite, but Eric Green and Troy Drayton were solid for us for a few years also and i'd almost say more consistent than McMicheal
Bob Baumhower - Don Strock - Jim Jensen - Jeff Cross - Troy Vincent
I wouldn't say he was underrated, but I definatly think as fans we never fully appreciated what Tim Bowens did for the team (fun fact, he's the last Miami Dolphin to win Rookie of the Year)
odawelea ogunlea (SPELLING)
Not sure if it top 5 but here are a few.
Louis Oliver (definitely top 5)
Yes, I forgot about Jeff Ogden!
Id replace Randy McMichael with Larry Izzo.
I dont think McMike was underrated. He performed greatly then his performance greatly diminished. If anything I think he was overrated with all those times he was supposed to make the pro bowl and never did. Not to mention he brought his sucking to St. Louis
Definately Irvin Fryar.. He was a bad *** reverand
Totally agree about Hardy. Mc Michael can't be put in the same sentence as Bruce Hardy. His Dropsitis was too much.
he was directly reponsible for AT least 2 that I saw of Joeys interceptions from his dropsitis. and remember how much of a slow, fat pile of **** he looked like in 2006. He def was not in shape. Dude couldnt even run
McMichael was totally overrated. He came in like a ball of fire and once he made a few plays and got a big head he just became lethargic, couldn't hang on to the ball, couldn't block. No way he was underrated. The guy is mediocre at best.
and thats giving him alot.. I think he plainly sucks. Last year he had career lows in yards, yards per game, and 1st downs made and matched a career low with receptions. I do however think he is a better TE than Martin, if that tells you what I think of Martin... Not that anyone should be bragging that they are better than Martin anyways
eh i didnt have the privaledge of watching the phins before the 90's... but i'll throw a few out there...
I dont know if all of these guys are top 5 potential but here goes.
yall can bash mcmichael all u want, id take him right now over any TE we have on the roster. his numbers did drop right at the end but so did our QB play.
Thank you! I honestly think I might take Ferrel Edmonds(SP) over Randy M.:hi5:
he was never underrated though.
Tim Bowens, Morlon Greenwood, Rob Konrad
i kno...i was just responding to the bashing of him. i mean there for a couple years, mabe 3, he was one of the top pass catching tight ends in the nfl. thats far better then mediocre or just plain sucking like some ppl here say.
Welker was not underrated either. His last year people were saying he was snubbed from the pro bowl when neither his recieving or return stats warrented a selection. Also wouldn't call Marion underrated. He was consistently a pro bowler for us and was making plays, it was just time for him to go (too slow).
1.) Louis Oliver
2.) Jim Jensen
3.) John Offerdahl
4.) Orande Gadsden
5.) OJ McDuffie
I would have say, Nat Moore should also be included in this list of most underated dolphins. His perpormce against the Bears in 1985 was classic!
Most underrated dolphins , interesting group of choices so far.
1-Andra Franklin third in NFL in rushing during strike shortened 1982 NFL season. would have been a bright star if not for the injuries.
2-Terry Kirby another player that was on the rise that got curtailed by injuries. Got injured in his second season as he was becoming a star and was never the same but was still a productive NFL player. As a rookie had 75 receptions at 11 yards a catch.
3-Ed Newman G- Never mentioned as one our best olinemen but was a 4 time probowler. Great player on our line from 73 to 84.
4-Nat Moore Wr- In another era he might have been a hall of famer. Guy had great hands and made plays.
5-Tony Nathen RB- Great receiver who made plays out of backfield. would have had a much better career supporting better runningbacks.
i liked Oliver and his big play ability, but his part in Olivadotti's copiously porous defense precludes him from being on my list. Sure he might intercept 5 passes a year, but how many times did we see him have James Lofton or Al Toon run past him, or see Rob Moore make a big play in his face.
Also, being a pro-bowler should eliminate someone from "most underrated" contest, although it is possible for a pro-bowler to be generally underrated of course (ie. Fryar and Timbo)
just some names that pop into my head:
4. Jeff Cross (did make the probowl in '90 though, but was a 9th rounder)
Brent Smith is a good one
Brent Smith was a very underated OL man that we kept putting in there because we could not ever find someone better. Then he was almost dominant when healthy. He was just injured alot in the end and we could not count on him playing.
I agree 100% with his first couple seasons, he made some remarkable plays
with a ability to get alot of yards after the catch. I think everyones point here is that his play if memory serves me right diminished greatly right after he recieved his big contract. Making him overrated and never living up to
QB Don Strock
RB Tony Nathan
FB Andra Franklin
WR OJ McDuffie
WR Duriel Harris
TE Bruce Hardy
LT Jon Giesler
LG Jamie Nails
C Tim Ruddy
RG Ed Newman
RT Eric Laakso
DE Bill Stanfill
NT Bob Baumhower
DE Doug Betters
OLB Bob Brudzinski
ILB Mark Brown
ILB Ernie Rhone
OLB Larry Gordon
CB Tim Foley
CB Don McNeal
S Brock Marion
S Yeremiah Bell
Greenwood I thought was neither over or underrated. Average player who more often dissappointed me.
Bernie Parmalee comes to mind first..... lots of good names mentioned. Drayton and Gadsden etc.
here's a name that hasn't popped up yet but gave us some good plays: shawn wooden
Calvin jackson was pretty decent if I remember correctly
Real nice job!:hi5:
Great post. Really got me thinking and I'm sure I've missed a few. Anyway, here's my list (no particular order):
Jon Geisler (sp)
Vern Den Herder
I liked Louis Oliver, but I think he was actually a little overrated in that he didn't cover very well. Did make big plays, though.
shouldnt some of you guys focus more on the people responsible for mcmichael's downfall because he to endure the wanny factor then he 6 different qbs. there is no way in hell a player can succeeed when you have some dimwitts at the offensive coordinator position.
randy made some of the biggest plays that a te in the nfl could make and he was good in college.
the reason i am defending the randyman is that he was handcuffed by the hc and changing hc's and qb's hurt him and chambers both so I am a big fan of mcmichael and chambers.
now here are 10 underrated players.
1. chris chambers
2 Jim Jensen
3 Bryan Cox
4 shawn Wooden
5 Patrick surtain
6 Lamar Thomas
7 Bob Greise
8 Guss Ferrotte
9 Hunter Goodwin
10 Earl Morrall
In no particular order:
Can't think of any other really big contributors who didn't get a lot of fan adoration.
hmmm wasnt ray finkle headed for the probowl til he missed that kick in the superbowl. but im gonna go with.
we always forget about damon huard who went 4-0 for us while marino was out his last season (sucks how a preseason can cause fielder to beat him out)
was always a big tony paige fan, the man could flat out block
terry kirby was good during his short time with us, specially catching out of the backfield
everyone always remembers richmond webb, but keith simms was a beast at LG
larry izzo. yeah special teamer but noone was better
and also i dont think mcduffie ever got the credit he was due
I have to say.... it blows my mind that anybody has the Blackwoods on this list.
Underrated? OMG..... The word Overrated comes to mind...
JUst thought of Tro Stradford.... He had 2 good years, and 1 great year
nate jacquet j/k
i really like tim ruddy.
