1.Will Jake Long be ready for Game 1 , What does it mean for Lydon Murtha? Everything is going according to plan for the Dolphins to have Long healthy for the New England opener. That's the word that keeps coming out. And there's no reason to doubt it as Long stays out of another week's practice to rehab his knee.

But Long's status has ramifications across the line. If what's observed in practice and the first preseason game continue through Friday's second preseason game, you have to wonder this: Would Lydon Murtha be the best option at right tackle? Murtha currently is playing left tackle in place of Long. Marc Colombo, the right tackle, struggled last year in Dallas and hasn't been a picture of consistency in his first days with the Dolphins. It's early for Colombo still. And the Dolphins need a competent left tackle to get them through preseason. Murtha has been that. The question moving forward for the coaching staff is whether Murtha can help this line more at right tackle than Colombo. That answer has to wait for Long to return, though.

Answer: .............YES!

-A source close to the team (up here in Charlotte) told me:

Jake Long is fine. As far as Sparano and the rest of the organization are concerned, Long is a man among men. Even on his bad days he destroys his opponents. He is the Peyton Manning of LTs; smart enough, strong enough and talented enough to skip training camp and preseason and still dominate his position on day one.

Murtha will be the starting RT. Columbo is here for depth, not to start.

You can take THAT to the bank.

The term, "A source close to the team" means, someone not connected to or close to the team in any way. The term, "You can take THAT to the bank" means, you SHOULD NOT, under ANY circumstances, take that to the bank.

Nominated post of the year imo.
