MINNEAPOLIS -- Daunte Culpepper has become one of the NFL's best quarterbacks, and the Minnesota Vikings wanted to make sure he's getting paid like it.

Culpepper and the Vikings reached an agreement on Sunday to restructure his contract, giving the three-time Pro Bowl player an unspecified raise.

Rob Brzezinski, the team's vice president for football operations, said the new deal -- given the blessing of new owner Zygi Wilf -- has been in the works since January.

Brzezinski didn't divulge financial terms, other than to confirm that Culpepper was getting an increase from the framework of the $102 million, 10-year contract extension he signed in May 2003. Culpepper's agent, Mason Ashe, also declined to specify, but said that the raise was in the form of both bonuses and annual salary increases.

Daunte Culepper was vastly underpaid prior to the raise. He was only getting paid $540,000 last season. Seth McKinney is making close to around $650,000. Here's Daunte's contract before the raise.

Salary History:

1999- $270,000
2000- $337,500
2001- $405,000
2002- $972,500
2003- $1,540,000
2004- $535,000
2005- $540,000
2006- $2,500,000
2007- $5,500,000
2008- $6,000,000
2009- $6,000,000
2010- $7,000,000
2011- $8,000,000
2012- $9,000,000
2013- $10,000,000

i'm pretty sure the raise affects only the first couple of years, where he's not making much at all

This is a bad thing in what way?

I think the thread starter is one of these guys who think the players are overpaid...I have news for you....the players get what the MARKET bears. I'd sure the hell rather the players make a bunch of the owners money then the owners rake it in and the players get the shaft...

No, as the threat starter, I posted this to say the NFL is getting out of hand. What did Manning get last year, 540,000 dollars. Why is Ronnie Brown holding out? It's about the bonus money. Manning got his Bonus money, is he getting a raise after a record setting season, I can bet he isn't making 8 million this season. Daunte got his 17 million signing bonus. It doesn't affect the Dolphins now, but I just think the NFL is getting out of hand.

The NFL's not getting out of hand. They have a salary cap and the owners make boatloads of cash. No player makes anything close to what even the smallest market owner makes. The players deserve to makes tons of cash, they create billions of dollars in revenue and they need to get their fair share of cash.

uh... yeah... and Dante threw 39 TDs last year. I'd say he's a keeper, and you pay what you need to. If the phins had him, you know nobody would be complaining here about this. :rofl3:
