Merged: Coulda, woulda, shoulda/Drew Brees

Hindsight is great, but Brees didn't do anything his first 3 years with Tomlinson. No way would he have the great year in 2004 because of our poor offensive line and coaching. With the new coaching staff, Brees could be the same QB he is today with SD. But with the fan bashing and Wanny/Spielman in charge, more than likely Brees would have been gone in 2004 and the trade for Feeley would have still occured. And we'd be in the same QB situation we are in today.

what if the dolphins drafted brees

not saying he's a great qb but what if we didnt draft that idiot fletcher...i didnt understand that pick we needed a qb and we drafted a cb when we had surtain and madison in their prime...amazing the dumb decisions the past regime has done...how could you pass him up!!!!!!!!!!!

There was strong logic behind going CB at that point: everyone and his mother was throwing the spread offense on us, and having some success with it. The pick was a dud, but it wasn't irrational.

Then we'd have never had those "Jamar Fletcher sux" threads....there would have been a million, "Brees must go/Brees sucks" threads. Alot of complainers on this board.

If Wanny had picked Brees he would have probably traded him by now for a 7th round pick.He was not noted for being a keen QB talent evaluator.

I really don't think Brees would have flourished under Wannstedt. We all know Jay Fiedler would have been starting anyway, just because he was Wannstedt's boy. I imagine we would have traded him last year for Feely straight up:D

What if the pats had drafted ZT... It would be crazy!!!!!!!! Wow.. oh no!!!!

To anwer your question, with our former collection of offensive fungus he would have been cut and would be flipping burgers on south beach. Come on now... Do you really think he would have looked good here?

I doubt Brees would have reached his potential under Wanny ball.

Stupid pick (I mean STUPID pick) notwithstanding, nothing good would have come from drafting Brees, honestly. One of two things would have happened:

1 - He would have been a flop, necessitating Fiedler starts w/ essentially the same results we had over the last few years. Brees would then either be gone or wasting away on our bench.

2 - He would have experienced slightly more success than Fiedler, resulting in maybe a playoff win or two, but nothing more. And the result of this would be Wanny still as our coach and more of the same nothing. More Wanny would have meant no Saban. And that would be truly sad!

Like i said, that theory doesnt fly because GB was just as likely to take Moss and had similar needs to ours and that didn't motivate any team to trade up above them.

Minn said they wouldnt have traded up for Moss, however, he was worth it at 21st. They were prepared to take someone else, but with moss being there they figured he was the best vaule.

No facts to back up your claim that our staying at 19 wouldve changed the first 18 picks.

I can't prove how reality would have changed and neither can you. All we can say is so and so said this. That's not proof. Since we don't/can't know what reality would have been you can't say we passed.
