Rose Bowl Game

Its pretty easy. Watching the game, throughout the entire first half, I saw Leinart throw up lame ducks the entire time. He has good touch on his finesse passes, but he seemed to move and throw in slow motion. Arm strength has NOTHING to do with a soft touch pass. There were some passes that Texas defenders knocked incomplete where I thought if Leinart put a little more mustard on the ball, the ball would have gotten to his receiver before the defender and it would have been a completed pass.

Of course I wouldnt expect a Leinart hugger like you to agree with me. ;)

and the 2nd half?

he threw lame ducks in the first half, then threw strong passes with great zip in teh 2nd half. what happened? was he faking the strong arm? he even had a quick release, too. i guess that was also just a trick by mr. leinart. you can't say he has a weak arm based on his WEAKEST passes. that's ridiculous

Im not judging his arm strength on his weakest passes, im judging it on the entire game. Not once did I see a ball thrown that had zip on it in his normal throws. When Leinart passes normally, his arm strength isnt the greatest.

Look at QB's that we deem to have good arm strength. Guys like Favre... even on their normal passes the ball has zip on it. They dont try to throw the ball hard, its just natural to them.

The few passes that had a little zip on them were not a normal Leinart throw. They were him putting ummph into the pass, its not his normal mechanics.

Favre has a great arm, and i dont think anyone on this board is saying Leinart has a great arm.

but see, you didnt say he didnt have a great arm, or for that fact a good arm even, you said he had NO arm. which is a complete lie.

Kasto is....he/she thinks Leinart has a cannon....the best QB to ever play the game...he/she has to be related....you think?

He wasnt throwing as many lame ducks in the second half as he did in the first half..... but his passes still didnt have zip to them and his WRs were at least catching his passes.

I said I dont think he has any armstrength. His passes are average speed. I can throw a football the same speed he does. I wouldnt be able to have his touch or presence or height, but compared to the average college QB, his armstrength is lacking.

I wasnt trying to compare Leinart to Favre, I was just using him as an example. The stronger passes that Leinart threw, it seemed he had to dig down and put effort into throwing the ball hard. QBs with good armstrength dont need to do that.....

Compare a Leinart NORMAL pass to a guy with good armstrength. Not just Favre, but anyone. A QB with good armstrength doesnt need to put effort into throwing the ball normally with zip. This was very apparent to me watching Leinart.

For the record, everyone has an arm. So your right, If I said he has no arm, thats a complete lie. ;)

I refer to armstrength as the ability to throw the ball hard. That is something in his normal throws and throwing mechanics that Leinart really doesnt have.

nope, you said he had NO arm.

and you must of seen what you wanted to see, cause Leinart didnt have to reach down for nothing. it may have seemed like it because of the touch he puts on most his passes, but nope, he didnt.

My post game thoughts:

1) Matt Leinart. Is it just me, or does this guy have no armstrength? He has great WRs that made a few good catches for him. FINALLY he played a good defense and he had trouble in the first half. Ive said it a few times that the Pac-10 doesnt play defense and look what happened to Leinart when he played a good D. He had a horrible 1st half, and a good second half. That tells me Pete Carroll did a great job making adjustments at halftime, like he usually does.

Also, what lost the most points for me was Leinart's quote after the game. "I think we (USC) are still the better team." Learn to be humble in losing. USC was up 2 scores with 5 mins left in the game and lost. The better team won. I wouldnt want a guy on my team who couldnt handle losing. Composure is everything in the NFL and EVERY TEAM loses. He looked so disguisted on the sidelines when Texas was marching on their last drive. He had his helmet on and his head down like he already gave up. Im glad we are picking 15th and wont take Leinart and Im glad he stayed in school another year or he might be our QB now.

Not having "any armstrength" and having "no armstrength" are the same exact thing.

I never said he had "no arm" because every person, unless handicapped, has arms. I dont ever use that phrase when talking about a QB.......

I guess you would think that I have good armstrength then..... to that I say thank you. ;)

I didnt see what I wanted to see. Before the game, I wasnt a fan of either team nor a fan of any players in the game. I wasnt rooting for either team. Im a PSU alumni so my homerism side is towards PSU.

If I was a Texas fan, then I would have seen what I wanted to see, however as a neutral observer who was watching the game with no interest either way, that isnt the case.

what in the world are you talking about philter? he had to put more effort into his passes? he has a very quick release with all of his passes with no wasted motion

arm strength + quick release = good

You can tell by someones armspeed as compared to their normal throwing motion when they are putting more effort into a throw. Now, I didnt TiVo the game and watch it in slow motion, but this was just the impression I got on his "zippier" passes.

I agree, he does have a very quick release but I know we disagree on his arm strength.

I guess we will find out in a few years after playing in the NFL.
