The 2006 Boston Red Sox Thread

Let Murphy play before you kill him. He's had 1 MLB game under his belt, who knows what he can do. People killed Melky Cabrera after a weekend (me included) and now look at what he's doing. Baseball is a funny game. Plus Murphy might be the Marlins' CFer next year (as rumors had been going around).

The other guys you named I'd stay way away from them. Soriano is a very good hitter, a top hitter, but the other guys like Carlos Lee, Shannon Stewart, Cliff Floyd? No thank you, I'll stick with Wily Mo and Murphy.

I'm saying that they should leave a spot for Murphy. My point with the list of all the other guys is that acquiring a power-hitting corner outfielder isn't difficult, whereas finding a good pitcher of any kind is.

I agree that finding a good pitcher is harder than a corner outfielder but Arroyo is an average pitcher, a 42-40 record with a career 4.30 ERA is average. People are overrating him big time. That's all I'm saying.

Take a look at some of the ERAs that have starting the past few days. You'll find 4.30, especially in the AL, is quite good in comparison.

The 4.30 ERA was his career ERA. But could the high ERAs show the lack of quality pitching in baseball right now, mainly due to the MLB favoring the hitters? But hey that's a whole other story all together.

Look, I'm one of Bronson Arroyo's biggest fans but come on the guy is at best a #4 pitcher, maybe a #3 depending on how bad the rotation is. I've watched the guy enough to know that, he is what he is. Just because the guy had a good first half in the National Triple A League doesn't make the deal a bad one for the Red Sox. What has he done since June? In typical Arroyo fashion, he starts off hot and once teams see him the 2nd or 3rd time around they have his number. I've never seen a pitcher being so overrated before because of 2 months in a terrible league.

Good to see some familar faces back in the line up tonight: Manny, Varitek, Gonzalez and yes even Nixon. Taveras pitched a good game tonight. And it was good to see some life in both the team and fans, scoring off of Jenks in the 9th was huge and good to see Carlos Pena do something in a Sox uniform.

Anyway I know the Sox are pretty much done but if they can somehow sweep the White Sox they'd only be 3.5 games back from the Wild Card with 22 games left, including 3 with the Twins at home. The White Sox don't have an easy schedule and they play the Twins on the road to end the season. Yes I know it's highly unlikely but hey it could happen (plus I need to kill some time in between Dolphin games).

Hey man anything is possible untill your eliminated, thats why the players just need to try and win and let everything else take care of itself

how long are the mods gonna leave this terrible thread up?

Don't click on it. And I'm not a Sox fan.

Shouldn't you be in Houston taking care of Roger Clemens?

Good win for the Red Sox tonight. Kason Gabbard pitched very good tonight, 7 innings, 3 runs, 2 BBs, 6 Ks, got out of trouble with 2 DPs. Very impressive for the rookie lefty making his Fenway debut. Timlin pitched 2 good innings tonight too. It's just too bad the Twins are winning tonight.

Hey the Sox could possibly go on a run. If they can sweep the White Sox tomorrow and sweep KC this weekend and take 2 out of 3 from Baltimore they could possibly be in good position in the WC race heading into NY. Of course then they play the Yankees for 4 games and Twins back to back. But if they can be within 4 games max from the Twins going into the series a lot could happen.

Keep the faith? Why not us?

(Although without Schilling or Papelbon we have no shot)

The last time I checked 1 game in September doesn't make or break a guy.

No but in Anibals first 13 starts he is 7-2 with a 2.28 ERA

In Becketts last 13 starts he has a losing record with a 5+ ERA

Not saying it means anything, just statistical comparison
