Whatsup this is my first post I just wanted to introduce myself and make a real quick point. I liked Matt Schaub alot in the draft a couple years ago and I was upset when we couldn't draft him. I thought he was a better prospect than JP Losman because of his size, accuracy, and leadership qualities.
Now we find ourselves in a situation where we can trade an expendable runningback to a team in need of an every down ball carrier. I think Atlanta is a team who is in need bigtime of an every down back, they have 2 backs in Warrick Dunn and TJ Duckett who are each good at certain things but neither of them is a back who can carry the load. Atlanta also happens to be the team who drafted Matt Schaub and when he did step in for Mike Vick he showed lots of promise. In a straight up deal Ricky for Schaub I would probably pull the trigger, anyone else feel the same way? Or is there any other way we could make a deal for Schuab happen? (I don't like giving away alot of draft picks)

I would be pretty happy with that trade. I don't know if Schaub is a forsure NFL top 10-15 QB, but he would be servicible. Do you think Schaub would be that much better than Gus will be next year? Probably not, and we have no future superstar QB then. I would just assoon trade up in the draft, and play Gus for another year.

Not Happening

I also like him, although he isn't exactly proven. He looks like he has an extreme upside, but they will not trade him and this is why. 1st of all the last thing they need is a rb. They already run split backs w/ duckett and dunn, so I don't see a need for Ricky. Also, Vick is extremelly injury prone, and I don't think you will ever see the Falcons w/o a prime backup qb.

If the trade ever came along I would definetly pull the trigger. Although I would hate to loose RW.

I dont think they would trade for Ricky since they have Dunn who is a very underrated back IMO. I also dont think Matt is a good fit for us due to allways playing in a West Coast system, I think he could be a good qb for a WCO team though.

They have two good backs, why would they want Ricky?

They need a WR, not a RB

Im from Atlanta, and I can tell you I wouldn't want him playing for us knowing we traded RW. He looked great in college, but he's seems to have turned out to be an alright QB, just another Gus. I know he hasn't gotten too much playing time to prove himself, but he definitely did not show any great potential while he was playing.

hell yeah i would pull the trigger. two problems, atlanta isnt going to trade a great prospect for a two year RB, even if he was the best running back in the league that would be a bad trade. the other problem is atlanta doesnt need or want a RB. Marty booker for schaub i would still pull the trigger but i think they will want some draft picks.

so bringing in a WCO QB would help how?

saban said our offense is goign to be similar to last season's (NOT WCO).

how would a guy who has done WCO his whole life help?

you guys need to use your brians before making stupid threads like this.

Yeah let's trade a potential top 5 RB for another backup QB after we have watched 5 backups fail as starters over the past 6 years. Good idea. Guys, why does everyone want that diamond in the rough at QB??? Since 2000 the following guys have started at QB for the Miami Dolphins and all of them were backups for other teams who looked good at times. Jay Fiedler, Ray Lucas, Brian Griese, AJ Feeley, Gus Frerrotte and Sage Rosenfels, some were better than others, but NONE were anything I'd want for my starter. Enough is enough, the only option IMHO is to start fresh with a 1st round talent at QB and a veteran backup. I'd rather trade Ricky for a proven veteran than another question mark.

I am all for trading RIcky, we NEED to trade RIcky for smoething, but Shaub. Please tell me what makes this guy so good. We can find better out there. Also, Dunn had a career year last year and had very good numbers, I am sure they are happy with Dunn running the ball.

its like this. Ricky is worth at least a second rounder to us. Maybe not to other teams, but to us. Hell id rather keep him than trade him for a second. So if we were to trade him for a player the player would need to be second round pick value, and I doubt Saban would give atlanta a second round puck for Matt Schaub. So no no no no no non
