Chris Mortensen on 790 The Ticket

Both are great runners and great recievers. What we need to improve on is what we do when both guys are in the game. Last year when both were in the game it was going to be a pass and everybody knew it. This year we need to add in reverses, cool running plays, play action etc. I look for Ronnie to really come on bigtime this year and the o-line is going to have 1 or 2 new players who will improve the quality of the rungame and make us look much better insofar as pass protection. With more time to throw Gus' accuracy and completion % has to improve. CC came on huge and is in the Pro Bowl as we speak, Randy should have a great year 2007 and Booker finally seems at home in Miami.

Ronnie would be the most expensive fullback to ever grace the NFL. If he gets a significant amout less carries than Ricky in his second year, it will be real hard to justify picking him. Ronnie will be pissed to.
Why are people so afraid to say we may have made a mistake in picking ronnie. He is a good back and he could be great but he needs to be more durable then he is. He didnt start at auburn for a reason. I dont see him as an every down back.

unless this is some way to raise his value and show how much miami and saban believe in this guy then i HATE IT! why the hell did we get a RB then? sorry i dont care about ricky and how good he is, this is ridiculous. I dont want a back stabber being the featured back while he slows down R.B. progress and DOESNT" deserve to be the featured back. R.B. does. end of story for me.
What did Ronnie Brown do last year that he now deserves to be "the man". And what business is it of yours what RW does with his life...I was pissed at him until I realized it was his life. He came back and he ran better then Ronnie in my opinion.

Well just the other day John Clayton was running Ricky out the door so Edge could come to Miami. They either forgot about Ronnie or they dont think he is a good back. I feel he is ready to play as our starter what is their beef?
People Question his ability to stay healthy, and hence his ability to be an everydown back

come on guys we gave ronnie all this money to be a back-up when everyone knows he should be starting??? i love ricky dont get me wrong but honestly if we could trade him to move up and grab cutler i'll pull the trigger in a sec how much longer before those 2 bump heads maybe never but still ronnie got what was it almost 40 mill to be back up? either way i'd love to keep ricky but if him being traded means we get out franchise guy at qb do it qb's are so tough to find and since marino left we havent had any luck finding one cause we only try out back ups who all fail
GReat idea, trade a way a proven everydown back for a qb that we cant get because hes been hyped up to be the next john elway. The power of hype got us RB

i feel the exact opposite way, ronnie is a much better runner than ricky.
Yeah i know its not like he fumbled on the goal line to lose a game for us or anything

RB should get better and needs time to adjust to being the feature guy. Am I the only one who sees an Eddie George comparison?

I dont think George ever had the speed or receiving skill of Ronnie.

ronnie is more of a compliment back. receiving, running, gadget plays etc. Ricky is definetly the feature back. I still want both though. I belive both will have a banner year in 2006.

Wow he got hurt this year so did Ricky his first year so did Carnell so did the Edge. RB's the size of Ronnie are going to get banged up dont you think that Saban knew that when he drafted him? Have you seen the yards he had for the low amount of carries he had? You cant tell me that he is not a starting RB in this league. Yes he got hurt all backs get hurt it dont mean he will be hurt all season this season. Getting rid of Ricky and getting another starting RB in a trade or FA would be crazy for the organization that would be a step backwards with all the help we need from other positions IMO. Giving Ricky the starting job for over half the carries would be crazy with the money we have in Ronnie unless he does'nt do what Saban wants him to do.

I would not trade Ricky just to move up to draft Cutler. We know what we have in Ricky, I am a big fan of SEC football and I have never heard of the guy until this year. We need a good veteran QB. We can get a rookie later in the draft. Ricky should start and Ronnie back him up. Right now, Ricky is alot better runner. Ronnie will get his chance.

Thank you, and don't forget that Nick will put that in the press to drive up the price for a trade as well. Perception is half the battle.

Because we didn't kow Ricky was going to be back in Miami!!! We have to play our best players.

You guys just don't know the ability and talenty RB has. You people just watch and RB will bee a Pro -Bowler. Just need a decent QB . No more Fibler or huards. Look at Auburn in 2004 . You have 2 superb Running Backs and a Future star at QB. HMMM. A QB is important. WAR Eagle!

I agree completely. A FB? Ronnie Brown? He will be one of the top RBs in the league for the next 5-6 years if given the carries. I hope this was leaked to Mortensen to raise RWs trade value because it doesn't make any sense. And again, Ronnie Brown as a FB? C'mon people.

Sounds suspiciously like something Saban planted to work on RW pricetag. JMO, but if Saban is so tightlipped about the workings of the team, how would something like this get out unless it was 'planted' (for lack of a better word)....

I herd the entire conversation, and Mort was only giving his opinions. It was not inside info.

He also said that NFL teams were going to be dissapointed that Vince Young is choosing NOT to run at the combines. He said that a lot of teams will want to see just how fast he is. Then he said because teams would most likely see him how they saw Matt Jones last year. He then said that Vince is going to have a rude awakening in the NFL playing against top Cb's week in and week out. Again his opinions, but this one I actually agreed with a long time ago.

Yeah it's not like Ricky has ever fumbled inside the 5 yard line before. :shakeno:

If they do that, then it would be conceding that they made a mistake in drafting him. Nobody picks a FB with the number 2 overall pick in the draft and nobody gives a FB a 20 mill signing bonus.

No it wouldnt, it would dictate to the defense that you have to keep an eye on both in the backfield now. On 3rd and short situations, who is getting the ball? You could just give the quick hit to ronnie up the gut or fake it and pitch to ricky. who the hell do you cover?

And I am not saying full time FB. They would not be in together all the time, but you have a package set for like 3rd downs. But if TO comes here, we probably dont need to worry about such things so...

What Mort does not understand is that Vince Young proved all that he needs to prove in championship games and not some meaningless 40 sprint and high jump. He can do that in personal workouts. But worst case scenario is that he drops and some team strikes gold.
