Whatever happened to Wade Smith??

We currently have Hadnot, Smith, Berger, James that have a good shot to make the roster next year. Hadnot and James being the only returning starters. We still have an open spot in the line considering we probably will not resign Seth. Either Berger/Smith step up and start or we sign a FA/Draft a starter for RG or C. Even if Smith does not start he is our best and most versitile option for back-up.

I think we keep 8-9 O-Line on the 53 man roster. I can't see us adding more then one C/G this offseason. Even if we add 2 from FA/Draft then Smith still makes the team in 2006.

Considering how Smith was doin last year in TC and his low cap number, he will be back. The only way I see him not returning to the roster in 2006 is if he didn't workout in 2005 when he was hurt and turned into a blob. If he is in shape and ready to play in TC he will make the roster, count on it.

Dont forget about Vernon..

Smith has small arms for a LT, that is why he struggled a bit. On top of that, Tony f-in Wise was his coach. The guy deserves a shot, thats all we are saying.

Dont dismiss the guy without a full TC to be evaluated and coached!!

I don't think so. He was "servicable" at LT considering he was a rookie at the time and didn't play there a lot in college. Everyone remembers him for the Colts game where Freeney made him look like a turnstyle but Freeney has done that to a lot of left tackles since then. Freeney gave Ogden a torrid time last season so it happens to the best of them. (btw I'm in no way comparing Smith to Ogden incase anyone gets that crazy idea in their heads  ) I also think that Colts game did a lot of damage to his confidence and it was around the 13th game of the season so he may have it the "rookie wall" by then.
I think it is worth keeping Smith around as he will be pretty cheap, he's athletic and can play a number of positions.

not only that What kind of stoopid coach would put wade smith 1 on 1 vs a good pass rusher

ding ding wanny thats right

Move Kevin Mawae to tackle and he isn't a good tackle. So he must be worthless.

exactly

any o-linemen not playing left tackle are not good enought to play LT

I didn't miss Vernon Carey. I think he will remain at RT and didn't list him in the guys that have the potential to be on the Roster as C/G.

I look at it like we will keep
3 OT : V. Carey, A. Alabi, (some other dude)
5 C/G : J. James, R. Hadnot, W. Smith, J. Berger (some other dude)

This thread was originally about W. Smith and if he will be on our Roster in 2006. I say yes. Most likely as a versatile back-up. I think he was doing well in TC in 2005 and the staff had good things to say about him. I believe he will compete for either the C or RG spot. I think RG is the most likely option. At the least he is good depth. Erase Smith playing OT from your minds if possible. I don't think he is an option there anymore.

He played OT like a turnstile...

I disagree. I do believe he is way too small and his footwork is not good enough to play left tackle but in 2003 he looked like a probowler in the making. 2004, I think any and every individual performance should get a mulligan. I am very interested to see how he does at center before he is declared a bust

Wasn´t he supposed to be pretty good before he broke his arm in training camp last year??

Wade Smith who? You mean the guy who got beat off the line 9/10 times. All he is is a wasted roter spot in my eyes. He won't be here much longer.

OK, it pains me to say this.....

Let's revisit this topic on opening day 2006. If he's still on the roster I'll come back and eat crow. Will you guys arguing the other side come back if he's not?

I said I would eat crow if he made it to the opening day roster, and he did. "Missed it by that much"....Don Adams, Get Smart:sidelol: :sidelol:

Upon further review....

Wade Smith was INACTIVE for the first week, so he DIDNT make the opening day roster......

actually the day after Wade Smith was hurt Miami signed a guard and a center. That showed me that they thought that Wade Smith is a good back up. Houck talked a lot about him and all reports out of camp was that the coaches were very high on him as a center/guard. There is a great chance he will be on the team.

the worst part is that we gave up a 2nd and a 3rd to get him in the draft-idiot Wannstedt!:shakeno:

I think you guys don't get it.....

Well that works out perfect....now we can have a witness for the crow eating!

I was writing this tongue in cheek because I was RIGHT, not wrong. Re-read the topic....The crow belongs to the people talking up Wade Smith, not to me.
