shelton gets 4yrs./15m (3.5m.signing bonus)

Awesome signing. Definitely not my FIRST choice for OT (Jon Runyan was my first choice) but he was definitely my SECOND choice for OT, just ahead of Tom Ashworth.

If Hudson Houck managed to teach Vernon Carey that "if you move your feet you can't be beat" then I think he could do wonders with LJ Shelton.

It's an awful good sign that after turding out in Arizona, he did NOT turd out in Cleveland and actually the Browns were trying unsuccessfully to get him under contract before they went to Plan B, Kevn Shaffer.

Agree Ck, with coach HH teachings this guy will surelly play a lot better. True he is a 7 year starter and will be 30 in a couple of days, but he brings leadership to our line. Now all we need is a RG, and our O-line will be set.

He's not a stud LT but has the potential to be whith Houck working on him. Very nice signing....Now to get a QB! C'mon Brees, there really is only 1 choice. Don't be a primadonna and take a few more million over a chance at a Super Bowl!

This is a very good signing. We haven't had a pure LT in several years. Several reasons this signing is good, even though he's not an all-pro:

1) He's a pure LT.

2) He has ideal size/wingspan at 6'6, 345 (though he probably needs to lose 20 lbs).

3) His best years are ahead of him as he is at an age where a lineman comes into his own - with experience, knowledge of other players, etc.

4) Under Hudson Houck, Shelton will see his best days as a lineman. It may take half the season to really show significant improvement. But, given what Houck did with last year's line, Shelton will improve.

If we can get Brees in the fold and Ricky can get out of his suspension, we will have a greatly improved offense next year. There are still a couple of other additions - including perhaps another lineman (RG/RT) to add to the mix (or a center) and a #3/#2 WR.

Then, it's continue to improve the defense.

Aaron Schobel loves this signing. He loves facing those big slow LT's.
Oh you mean like Jason Taylor has done to that revolving door you call an O-Line for years? Whats a matter, you have to the Fins board to get some ACTION?:sidelol: Nothing going on in Jills land eh?:dolphins:

I'm not too confident about this signing... Shelton was a disappointment for CLE last year, but the main thing is we still have Houck as our O-line coach so I trust his judgement. I just hope we didn't overpay for him like CLE did last season.

Actually Mike Gandy played well against all the top Pass rushers he faced, Including Taylor.

Have fun with this guy.

Scouts inc scouts Shelton:

Shelton is a massive, wide body hog type OL and he never fit as an OT because of lack of quickness on the perimeter, and for some strange reason he did not flourish inside, where his skills would seem to be more suited. He does have excellent overall strength and when he can engulf defenders he can be very effective. He has an excellent initial punch and he uses his long arms and hands well. He can certainly handle the bull rush and he is at his best in a short area power game. He lacks speed and range and he is vulnerable if you put him on an island. Not only does he struggle with quickness off the edge, but he's at his worst vs. double moves and because he lacks balance, he tends to overextend and he cannot redirect or recover.

A LT is great for us. I believe he was a good player for them all of last year.
Things looking good.

Do you think this signing was part of the negotiations with Brees to beef up the line so he would sign ? To show we are dedicated to make him sucsesful here both on and off the feild.

Thats alright because all he will have to do most of the time is road grade for Ronnie and Ricky which he will be perfect for. We got rid of that pass happy bad playcalling Linehan so you can start being concerned with Ricky running wild on your D again which he seems to love to do. Thanks for the scouting report though.

I think that Saban and Mularky like to run which Linehan didn't. They may be looking for people for a power run game like Mularky had with Pitt.

Yeah, Buffalo has done a whole lot so far huh? Guess you would need to get in here and ruffle some feathers. I feel for you though

And oh, since you and Aaron are ESP best friends, give him my best. Thanks

I am very concerned about Ricky and Ronnie. Best RB tandem in the NFL.
