Can "Pep" be ready for September?

it doesnt matter if hes ready game one, we have finally landed our franchise qb. he will retire a dolphin, to a stadium full of dolphin fans wearing Culpepper Jerseys. He will win us a superbowl, and return us to glory

IMO this is only a good trade if Culpepper is ready to go by day 1. If he's not, we will be wasting games.

We gave up a second rounder for a QB who's stats, with the exception of last year, would have him up for HoF contention if he continues at that level for another 6 or 7 years. If he wins a SB ring or 2 with the dolphins he's HoF bound and we'll have to retire #11 along with #12 and #13 (nice run). Plus his contract is nice and cap freindly to the dolphins (all those nasty signing bonuses are now "dead money" for the vikes.

Even if Culpepper doesn't play a down in '06, but resumes in '07 like he played in '01 to '04 it's still a great trade for us.

The key is going to be how he returns from injury, and I for one don't care if his '06 season is a wash out as long as when he returns he's fully fit and playing won't aggravate and re-aggravate his injury (see Pennington, Chad)

I think Saban is thinking long term, if that means that Daunte misses the first month of the seaon, then so be it.

This move is absolutely a long-term move. If we don't see Pep before the bye, I could care less.

We're getting a player who Jimmy Johnson once described as the best player in the 1999 draft for a 2nd round pick - he has indeed proven to be one of the best players from that draft.

John Clayton, Chris Mortenson and Adam Schefter have all said they strongly expect Daunte to be ready for the season.

Which medical school did those three go to?

Bills fans said the same thing about Bledsoe. Who also wore #11 BTW.

A Saints fan talking smack about Culpeppers injury? You`ve got to be kidding me! Obviously the Dolphins felt DCs knee will come around before Penningt, er Brees` shoulder will. Much rather take a player with a bum knee, than an already weak armed QB with a damaged shoulder. You can have Brees, funny how he didn`t even really want to go to New Orleans but he didn`t have a choice after we passed on him. Gotta love paying major $$ to a guy who doesn`t really want to be there, but then it`s New Orleans, can you blame him. Brees arm might never fully recover, and you guys really don`t want a Drew Brees at QB with a weaker arm than he had before. Good luck this year Emeril!

The main topic here though is when will Daunte be ready? Reading this article it seems like Daunte thinks he will be. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2368259

Wow, that would be great if he was able to play in preseason and on opening day. Does anyone else have any info at all on this? Anything would be appreciated. :dolphins:

Listening to the media types yesterday on whether or not he'll be ready for the start of the season, several actually felt he'd be ready to play, although not completely healthy. Most were talking October before he starts.

I go with the majority here. This is a calendar year recovery time. Even if he's ahead of schedule by a month, it's still mid October before he's back. I can't see him possibly ready much before that...In fact, he could end up on the PUP list...JMO...

It is imperative that the Dolphins re-sign Frerotte. He is an excellent back up and can maintain continuity until Culpepper is ready to start.

Yeah, but Bills fans say all sorts of nutty things. We try not to laugh in their faces, but it's very difficult...
