who do you want as are linebacker arrington or peterson

If Huff would slide to us that would be a steal, I would be very excited to say the least.

My dream scenario but he'd have to get by the Bills/Lions/Cardinals/Rams/Browns/Falcons as all teams with safety needs.

Let me ask you guys, since we seem to be the only one's awake.
Who would be an absolute steal at 16?

D'Brickwall Ferguson, but I probably have a better chance of hooking up with Danielle Fishel or natalie portman than us landing him at the 16 spot.

Honestly, if we could land Lawson, Cromartie or Jimmy Williams at 16 I'd be happy. A steal at 16 would be Winston Justice or Michael Huff. Beyond that, I dont see any of the other "absolute steals" really falling to us.

I would have to go with Arrington. Why, Peterson had more injuries. [/quote

Same here, unless Peterson signs really cheap.:cooldude:

Peterson is a better player than Arrington and fits better into the 3-4 scheme for me. However, the Fins are pursuing Arrington more aggressively because Peterson's Achilles injury has slowed him down a bit. Honestly, it's almost ridiculous that we can just choose between two high quality players at a position of need when we've already acquired a franchise QB and filled holes in 3 or 4 other spots already. This offseason could become epic after we see what the results on the field are.

I am not sure if I can completely agree with you there, however i would agree that peterson is the smarter more studious player. Arrington's level of play would be directly dependent on how much he decides to put into it mentally. Athletically he is probably the most gifted LB in the league. If he can just learn to develop ZT's study habits, he will DOMINATE!! But I won't get my hopes up too far about that. Even with just his athletic ability, he is still a great lb who i would love to have. Whoever we sign, I will be very happy with !!

I too am impressed with the actions made by Nick and his staff. Four days into free agency and we had addressed two of our greatest offensive needs. He has done exactly what his post season press conference promised. With every move it becomes more apparent, especially to those in the business, that Nick Saban has a real deal plan and omg, maybe Bill was telling the truth. We sure got lucky...and H.Wayne, God love him, did what was necessary to get him here and staff him up.

Something else I thought about in relation to Nick and potential free agents. Not only do they know coming in...clearly, that it gets done his way, but that they will have to work hard, maybe harder than ever before. He also is telling them of our rich history and our journey back into dominance, that there is a reward. Everyone can see the promise too, we won six in a row and were undefeated in December, whose curse was well known by the league. People who bought in were rewarded with victories and improved personal play. His promise to set people up for success proved true as was his concept of individual responsibility. For someone like Arrington, who feels perhaps slighted by his former employers, the chance to become the "best" has to have appeal. Our future is bright.

Arrington wants too much!

Dolphins | Team only discussed preliminary numbers with Arrington; price is too high

Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports the <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/22/nfl">Miami Dolphins have spoken with free agent LB LaVar Arrington (Redskins) and preliminary numbers were discussed, according to an NFLPA source. The Dolphins' priority is clearly Arrington, who visited last week. But Arrington's asking price is reported to be in the $6 million-a-year range, which is probably too rich for Miami.http://kffl.com/

Based on our other LB's, if $6M is to high for LaVar what number do you think Nick is offering? $5M?, $4M? How far apart do you think we are in these talks?

Neither. I'd rather take my shot at trying to draft Greenway at the 16 spot and signing Ty Law to a deal once he lowers his demands. Can always draft a CB later in the draft and just see what the team has with Daniels/Poole/Mitchell/Goodwin/later draft pick etc before blowing a high draft pick on one.

2 young LB's in Greenway/Crowder with the veteran in Zach. By the time Zach's ready to retire those guys will be seasoned enough and the team only has to look at a MLB signing or draft pick at that time instead of signing someone and having their contract come due around the same time.

Both Arrington and Peterson are still fairly young. They would be superior additions than Greenway. Those guys are proven stars, until Greenway steps foot on a NFL field, all we can talk about is his potential. These guys have the stats to back them up.

They are both quite expensive. If money was not a problem I would pick Peterson, but Arrington isn't going to want quite as much as Peterson. Are there any other lower-money options?

Those guys will also cost $5 million a year more and Miami doesn't have the cap room for either. Then your also facing the fact that you'll have to cut and find a replacement for them around the same time that Zach retires leaving holes at 2 LB spots. Greenway isn't just potential he's one of about 4-5 guys in the first round considered 'nfl' ready and honestly I won't be surprised if he goes higher then 16. The top end of the LB class this year is excellent.

I hope we get some good news on these guys today, like signing one of them.
