Starting Secondary!

Am I the only one that gets a feeling Schulters might not be coming back?

I really hope he does.

I am very suprised people haven't been talking more about Ko Simpson from S. Carolina. He is very young(left after sophmore yr) and was easily a top 3 FS in the NCAA. He is currently projected at #31. How does trading down/grabbing a 2nd rd pick and this guy sound.....

Position:FSNumber:10School:South CarolinaHeight:6'1Status:SophomoreWeight:202Mock Draft Position: #31 overall by SEA

  • He is a player in the defensive backfield at the safety position with serious upside
  • He is a player that has stepped up his level of play since last year, in that he has gained more weight and strength, and become more of a physical presence on the field of play
  • His game is predicated on his physical play he brings to the defense, when he arrives to a ball carrier he brings a blow, he also seems to always be active and around the ball
  • He has good size and looks to be a better than average athlete, who also has the speed and agility you look for in a top flight corner, and has the talent and skills sets to be a excellent coverage corner
  • This is a player I look to evaluate further in the near future
  • Update (03-09-06) South Carolina safety Ko Simpson arguably one of the best safeties in college football the past couple of seasons, said Monday they will enter the NFL draft, giving up their remaining two years of eligibility. Simpson, a sophomore named to the third-team AP All-America list last month, led South Carolina with 103 tackles this season and had one interception. He said he started thinking midseason about turning pro. "This only comes once in a lifetime," Simpson said. "I think, basically, in two years I did probably what all I could do at USC. ... I just followed my heart and thought it was best." Simpson had six interceptions his first season, which tied for third in the nation, and was named Southeastern Conference freshman of the year. He signed a letter of intent with South Carolina in 2003 but didn't enroll until the following year. While technically only a sophmore Simpson is draft eligible because he sat out a year after graduating from high school before enrolling at South Carolina.

Ive got news for ya, Travis Daniels will NOT be moved to safety. There is no way a guy this good will switch positions. Saban drafted him out of LSU for his ability at CB, he wouldn't play him a full year there and then decide to switch him in his 2nd season....c'mon!

I agree with you, leave him at cornerback.

I think our top priority is now re-signing Lance Shulters. Once that happens it will look like this.
CBs: Allen & Daniels (maybe Poole)
FS: Shulters
SS: Bell

Now, we are not finished in the upgrading process. I believe either Jimmy Williams or Antonio Cromartie will end up here. Maybe even more rookies. This is what our starting secondary should look like in September, at least I'm hoping.

CB- Allen
CB- Williams or Daniels or Poole
FS- Shulters
SS- Bell or Cromartie
nickle- Williams, Daniels or Poole

Is it a bad idea to start rookies at the corner spot? I know Antrel Rolle was the top CB selected last year and he really sturggled in Arizona. How tough is it to learn that spot?

uh isn't cromo a CB? hence the closest to being the last of the dying bread in shut down corners? not a S

I have a bad feeling too, but yeah I am with you I want him back too!

they said on foxsports.com that will allen couldn't catch a cold.:fire:

he is a cover corner. not an INT guy.

this is a good signing right?

i mean i trust saban, but the media is making me doubt this guy.

I think that Miami should bring back Schulters and consider moving travis Daniels to play alongside Schulters... and maybe start allen, poole and draft a young stud corner to play with the rest of these guys... what do u guy think???

Right now your starters are:

Allen/Daniels
Tillman/Bell

Goodman/Poole/Hill will be battling for nickel corner with Hill also likely to be the 'flexible' guy in the secondary and also getting time in the safety rotation. Forget this talk of moving Daniels. At this rate he's going to be the 'old' guy teaching the secondary to the CB's at the ripe old age of 23. He's all that's left for stability there.

o yea well do u actually feel comfortable with a starting safety tandem of tillman and bell....cuz if u do then u obviously havent seen tillman play very much
